Re: Accelerating Change & Increasing Complexity
Project yourself into the future, and imagine how you will feel about today's "burden" -- it's likely that you will wax nostalgic for the relative simplicity of handheld computers and folding laptops in a time of brain-machine and conversational interfaces, surrounded by robot domestics who fill ...

Re: Accelerating Change & Increasing Complexity
I am curious as to how much greater the force of the uncontrollable is pushing down on humans compared to times in the past. In other words how much more of a burden to the present day individual is the complexity of its civilization compared to what humans endured in the past. Also what is it that ...

Re: Cash or card?
No credit card here, but will probably get one soon like a friends that gives back 1% on all purchases and 2% on gasoline which is a benefit if you keep it payed off every month. I use a bank card for most things, cash is preferred for small purchases and alcohol and similar.

Re: Accelerating Change & Increasing Complexity
My fear is that this massive system with accelerating change and increasing complexity has too much momentum, and is too complicated to understand and predict for the purpose of course correction, placing us on a ride going off the rails that can't be changed. Unless anyone has ideas.

Rationalization, or making excuses for my actions. This cookie is going to give me a boost to help me get my homework done.
For my diet and exercise to be good, I must make the mental switch where it is the default state, not a decision.

Re: How to learn effectively from a textbook?
I try to incorporate the information into my working knowledge base. If I can apply the information to real life when appropriate, I have learned it. This is my check.

Wait what!? I thought Gandalf was an intp. Maybe he is a infj from the movies, but in the books he seems kind of like an intp, though I can see it and I have not done in depth analysis.

Re: Water Filtration Systems
I have a gravity fed stainless steel Doulton filter with ceramic candles impregnated with silver. It is one of my most prized possessions up there with my cast iron pans. I recommend ceramic to charcoal, once a year I scrub the outside of them and they are practically new again. Ive had it for over ...

Re: Nothing Matters Vs. Everything Matters
I do not assume a fundamental truth, but try to figure out what it is. This will never happen, but I live and act under this truth even though I don't know what it is. I'm an intp by the way. Also Jason's intuition of the scene is decent.

Re: Nothing Matters Vs. Everything Matters
I understand acting as if either is true for all time is unstable. Are you saying that as time goes on the correct ratio of everything to nothing mattering is optimized by humans approaching the universally true state of existence?

Nothing Matters Vs. Everything Matters
I like starting new threads when I've had a few drinks and am procrastinating some homework, so this time the question is: does everything matter or does nothing matter? I have settled on choosing whichever suits my current predicament but I am open to change.

How are human's pets evolving? What are the effects on dogs and cats that live with humans, any ideas?

Faster. The environment has increased in complexity requiring more adaptation -> evolution.
