You can also say no even if they give you what you want!!! You don't have to defend, justify, or explain. "Thanks for the generous offer, but I've decided to go in a different direction." Leave it at that.

Of course, you can also take it, if you want.

I've returned new shoes before that didn't work out. Check the return policy of the stores you go to. Some are more generous than others. For example, the store REI lets you return new shoes for up to a year if they don't work out.

I think Jacob is likely too tall for a Miata to be comfortable on road trips.

Pretty cool idea! Two things you probably already thought of, but I'll throw up. You may have to handle filtering to make sure you have a good mix of skilled and unskilled labor. If a skilled person will need/want helpers, they also may have to be willing to teach others in order to bring them up to...

I have been noticing all the unhealthy snacking I do during tasks that require my System 2. Per the research discussed, the added glucose is actually whats needed to overcome other distractions/temptations and utilize my System 2 for completing challenging work. It’s quite an unhealthy phenomenon b...

Botton also just put out a very good lecture on Romanticism and the problems in causes in our love lives due to its lack of realism: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPOuIyEJnbE I found useful advice on approaching the problems that come up in my relationship in the above video. In the same thread, ...

Speaking of burpees, is anyone doing them while living in an apartment? Any particular tips on how to not annoy the neighbors? Another alternative to jumping burpees is to take a weight from the floor to overhead rather than doing the push up and jumping. Here is a video of one way to do it: https:...

Re: Where do you get music?

How many unique songs do you need to listen to in a year in order to have sufficient variety? Can you play with your notion of needing variety? If you get 20 CDs with 5 songs each, that's 100 songs. Maybe you can rotate between those for the rest of your life to maintain variety instead of finding e...

Makes sense, AxelHeyst. And maybe it's my personal problem/an ego thing for me to work through too. Your asterisked reaction is basically what my reaction was in that situation. Sometimes I appreciate the meta conversation such as the one we ended up having when I was asking about how I could go bac...

@AH: All that advice is great, thank you. I should definitely state that upfront when it's relevant. In hindsight, I also could have declined to state my specific goals. Someone ask and I answered which led to the side tracking. I should have mentioned they weren't relevant to what I wanted to discu...

ERE MMG Meeting My mastermind group had a meeting today. I started the meeting by saying that I have goals and desires that I'm excited about, but I'm often less excited about doing the day to day work to reach those goals. I want to enjoy the day to day work more. The examples we discussed the mos...

I think some brain testing unlocked a paradigm shift in how I approach mental health. The impact will be seen over months and years, but I have high hopes. I can articulate cognitive deficits, why they lead to career burnout, and how the impairments impact me even now. If you are interested in shar...

Re: Is dissatisfaction necessary to change?

Maybe one way to think about this is to imagine that there is a scale from "drastically lacking" to "good enough" to "best known" to "best there can be". Dissatisfaction is when you don't even have something "good enough". You want to go from "l...

A one dimensional life spent only maintaining a trust doesn't sound great and I agree with you, Ego, that if that's all they do, it's sad. However, that wasn't the point of the article. The article doesn't answer the question of how these people spend their free time and their life in general. It sp...

I gave it a go, but I couldn't find any useful threads on teaching as a profession. It doesn't help that I can only recall various journal owners who discussed their teaching experience (grundomatic and candide - full time, berrytwo - substitute) rather than any threads with that topic. You may have...

I hate job hunting. The adrenaline and high pressure never felt good to me. I also hated the fact my entire day was wasted on the interview and I needed another day or two to recover from the event. I also didn't enjoy having to study for many hours in the weeks preceding the interview circuit to pr...

Is this what you're asking 7W5? "Do those on this forum have enough inter-subjective overlap to result in enough buy in to begin interesting and big inter-objective projects if they lived nearby each other and saw each other regularly?" The reasons you gave for asking this question, if I u...
