Re: Small and winding road to freedom

Holy crap, what a January. Car maintenance was planned and expected. I didn´t expect the fly shop sale. * Amongst our weaponry are such diverse elements as: fear, surprise, ruthless efficiency, an almost fanatical devotion to the search engine optimization, and nice red uniforms *. But as I mentione...

Re: Small and winding road to freedom

@delay Guilty on all accounts :) House maintenance includes the mandatory fees and not much actual maintenance. We replaced water pipes last year and are paying that off on the loans section. During next 2-4 years we will fix drainage pipes and that's another 10 k. I have that in the common expenses...

"My middle has been considering a study-abroad semester to the fatherland, requiring logistical and emotional planning beyond my current capacity." I think I might be able to help on this. If the University of choice happens to be in my town, I can find student housing easily and advice on...

Re: Small and winding road to freedom

I tried to figure out what is wrong with the finances. The divided accounts are maybe a bit confusing. Especially during last fall, where my gov´t check from paternity leave was paid to the savings account (and I started using more of it). I tried to make a "honest" budget for this year. T...

Re: Small and winding road to freedom

I looked a bit at the previous years. I think I have been overspending on shopping and I can see definite rise in living costs and lifestyle inflation. Food cost was 13 % higher than 2019-2022 average. At the same time I can see a definite decrease in quality of food. I am more mindful what I buy an...

Re: Small and winding road to freedom

Thanks Mathiverse, The rest of the year didn´t go so well. After the friend´s bday party I was sick for a week and completely tired for the week after (so probably covid). Then I broke my foot, so basically spent december on my couch playing Skyrim. I had to manage the baby as well, so not completel...

I am so sorry to hear about your situation. I hope that you can start the healing process, and get better. Your posts have showed amazing resiliency despite all the adversity that life has put in your path. I have no words of advise, but I hope that this expression of empathy will reach you...

Re: Small and winding road to freedom

October This style of following expenses is not working well at the moment. Parental allowance from gov´t is coming to another account and I have been using it much more. I just transferred 1000 € to this account, and it seems it is not enough. October I had a fishing trip by myself. So more gasolin...

Re: How do ERE men attract women?

Just reporting back about the previous advice you gave. Putting on big boy pants works. Being less resentful is a big step in making things happen. Turns out that putting the resentment aside for couple of weeks helped the general mood in the household a lot. I didn't really become more attractive i...

Re: How do ERE men attract women?

@7wb5 I think you have a point. I have been too concerned with the hypotethical discussions in my head and haven't been discussing in RL enough. Also the negative voice in my head is one issue I need to tackle some more. I have been working on it a little bit and its coming from depression. I am lea...

Re: A Journey of Mindfulness--the Remaking of Life in Midstream.

A little late to the discussion, but wanted to share. Good to hear that you managed the kayaking accident well. Unexpected stuff happens, but you were well prepared and fit enough to handle it. On my last fishing trip I camped on a steep river bank. When it was dark I went down the river to pick up ...

The apnea story is not going so well. My guy really struggled with using the apnea machine and has now send it back. I was really sad about it for a while. I hope he reaches out for help and guidance (from the general practitioner for example, or from the apnea patient organisation), but so far he ...

Re: How do ERE men attract women?

@Ego You raise a good point about resentment. I have thought about this and maybe even done some of that. I have attributed my withdrawal from parental issues to burnoutand tiredness, but maybe the resentment has a part in it as well. All the more reason to work on these issues and be a better paren...

Re: How do ERE men attract women?

@mathiverse Thank you for your empathy. That really warmed my heart <3 Your assessment about "not being heard" was spot on. Things ended up like this because I thought about it and put my wants on the side. Females have biological clock and I understand that it is a major issue to them. So...

Re: How do ERE men attract women?

Thank you again! @ffj and DutchGirl I know that kids take time and effort. I have been practicing for 8 years. I am not complaining because I took part in making them. With the first one, I was all in and I am not grumbling because of that. That was a willingly made decision. The second one I voted ...

Re: Small and winding road to freedom

September expenses Things start to get muddled up a bit. I get the parental allowance to a different account so spending account dried out. And I used the other debit card more than usual. Shopping got out of hand. Since I had time, and some stuff needed to be done, I did shopping for the kid´s scho...

Re: How do ERE men attract women?

Thank you for your inputs. Much appreciated. We did talk when we were dating and were in general agreement about the major issues. However, as you said, things change. For example I got burned out and very tired party because of health reasons. So I didn't want more kids, because I was not sure if I...

Re: How do ERE men attract women?

I don't even know where to begin, because the conversation meandered through lots of interesting perspectives. Somehow I got a little discouraged about the current situation and especially about the future generations. As a father of a boy, I don't see how I can advise him on this. Maybe I'll refer ...

Re: Small and winding road to freedom

August was the first month of paternity leave. I tried to start moving more, and the baby has proved to be excellent personal trainer. I get 20-30 km of stroller walks per week. And I tried jogging thet I have been avoiding for the past 4-5 years. When the weather gets worse, I will try to start goi...

Re: Small and winding road to freedom

Well, it has been a busy year so far. Baby was born in february, and most of the time has been just taking care of her. I had a burnout diagnosis and I have been trying to do some work on myself. There hasn´t been much time to take care of my own well-being until I started paternity leave. In the be...
