Re: Investments Trade Log
It's the Elon Musk effect. Dogecoin isn't about fintech, it's just hype and memes. I think crypto as a whole has a bright future, especially ETH. At the end of the day, it's not about how you invest: fundamentals, technicals, dogecoin, doesn't matter. There is no right way of investing, It's all abo...

Re: Dealing with anger in the face of everyday evil
What???
So these scientists are worse than murderers?
Why not have 100 kids then? Aren't you killing the other 98 kids by only have 2 kids?
You're trying to think about something practical in a very theoretical/religious/philosophical way.

Re: Dealing with anger in the face of everyday evil
How's it dishonest? Overpopulation is the main problem. Also, how do you go from not having kids to murdering people? Are people that selfish that they would rather murder someone than not have kids? You know what, never mind. Also, you say there are simple solutions to this problem, and in the same...

Re: Dealing with anger in the face of everyday evil
Nice wording, I like how it says "have 1 fewer child". No balls.
Reminds me of the hollow idols we worship, the "environmentalists" who have multiple kids. You know the James Cameron's, the David Suzuki's, the Gojira's, etc.

Re: Dealing with anger in the face of everyday evil
It helps to be nihilistic. Lower your expectations of other people. Accept that death will happen one day. You might die of starvation, drinking toxic water, or war, or something else, probably not old age.
I mean what were you going to do with your life anyway? It's meaningless. Who cares?

^ I'm trying to figure out whether the chip shortage is short/long term. Even before the pandemic, miners were driving the prices up. With institutional players getting into bitcoin, this will only get worse. Scalpers are driving the prices up. Running out of sand, material costs increasing. IDK.

Re: Investing, Finance and Economics 2021 Study Group
I tried following this 7 book curriculum a few months ago but gave up as I didn't find it very useful. They were way too theoretical and academic. First, there are two Economics textbooks that cover the same topics. So if you were going to read an Economics textbook, just pick one, don't read both. ...

@white belt Yes, the market cap is the biggest problem. Retail can't move a 1.4T market. Also, the point made by Michael Burry. "A corner in the silver market has been tried before - and let's be clear, that is what is being attempted now. In 1980, a rule change by the government destroyed the ...

Re: Changes to the 4% rule
Fair points Bankai. I sort of disagree with point a, yes megacorps are buying small caps or driving them out of business, but small caps are here to stay (assuming you're picking stocks and not the index). The low inflation argument is definitely falling apart, the more people make money from Gamest...

@Chris "What's preventing Gamestop from issuing more shares and cashing in on this siutation? Pending earnings perhaps? The wrath of millions of redditors? I recall that when WSB piled on to Hertz -- in bankruptcy -- Hertz filed to issue more shares." You mean what AMC did recently? https:...

The only reason I am not in this trade is because I don't have an exit strategy. As soon as the hedge funds tap out, it is going to free fall. And I don't know when/if they will.

Re: ERE Blog post: Ecological capitalism and consumer capitalism
Thanks for the clarification. "If you can internalize ERE (or vanilla RE) you have the work ethic to escape minimum wage one way or 'tother." True, but wouldn't that require more education? Which would delay ERE. I listened to this podcast a while back about how you can retire with a milli...

Re: ERE Blog post: Ecological capitalism and consumer capitalism
"It takes only five years of hard work to gather enough investments or claims on products to live an ecologically sustainable life." I did not agree with this in the book when I first read it, and I still don't agree with this. What if you're working a minimum wage job, or 2 part-time jobs...

"It could seriously derail FI under the current US health care regime. ERE would also be difficult. The renaissance strategy is not easy if one continuously suffers from brain fog or is left with a feeding tube out the nose that has to be hooked up to a nutrient bag for 20 hrs a day." I th...

Re: Changes to the 4% rule
Lots of good points and explanations. The article mentions that he did consider inflation going up, and it's priced in. A 0% SWR is the safest option, but that pretty much removes the early in early retirement. You might as well work till you're 50-60. Even a 1% SWR seems too much, why save 100x if ...

Changes to the 4% rule
https://www.marketwatch.com/story/the-i ... 1603380557
The rule has been updated to 5% due to low inflation.
What are your opinions on this? Are you still sticking with 3-4%/other %?
