Re: New technology - that could solve our energy problem?!

Those are all welcome developments but technologically speaking the energy problem is already solved. Solar and Wind are already the cheapest sources of electricity pretty much. And they are only getting better & cheaper. At this point it's just a matter of time (like 2 to 4 decades) before the ...

Re: Lending out Crypto or how to generate other income streams?

You could either personally pick solid dividend stocks are just throw it all in something like VHYL (vanguard ftse all-world dividend) and get more or less 3% of annual dividends. For 3.5 millions that would be 8k a month, minus the 26% tax that's still 6k more or less. You are set whatever you do p...

What about putting a % into crypto?

Maybe instead of gold for example.

Re: The next big thing

I knew of the Bitcoin and especially Ethereum project relatively early on. Don't remember how i found the Ethereum project but it was at a time when they barely had a working website and subreddit iirc. It was just out of interest about decentralization, blockchain and all of the potential of these ...

Re: Bitcoin on the rise

It's possible to estimate saturated market capitalizations of currencies (e.g. $1tn or $10tn but not $100,000tn). It's also possible to examine the technical features of these currencies and conclude that those with no substantial advantage over the first movers are unlikely to ever catch up with t...

Re: Bitcoin on the rise

If one is investing with some theory of value - admittedly not a popular strategy in the crypto world - rather than momentum trading, it is quite easy to predict that almost all of them are worthless. There hundreds of cryptos so yeah most of them will have no value/don't have any use. However stan...

Re: Bitcoin on the rise

@iopsi I agree, tokenization is the way of the future and there will be massive structural changes as a result of it. My issue is, I'm not sure how to predict who will be the winners and the losers? We are in the early days of a space race between every cryptocurrency developer. Soon it will also i...

Re: Investing Internationally - Active Funds vs. Index Funds

Active funds get generally outperformed by passive investing (index funds, etfs, buying yourself a large amount of stocks and having passive management, etc). AND the active funds that for a few years are able to outperfom the passive ones are generally unable to replicate that performance. So not o...

Re: Bitcoin on the rise

Prediction: the crypto market is MASSIVELY undervalued (and i mean it, in terms of many many trillions). This because with cryptos you can tokenize ANYTHING and make it tradable on the internet 24/7 with no central organization acting as a bottleneck for access & functionality. You can tokenize ...

Re: Creating my own S&P 100 index fund - Is the return worth the downsides?

Basically, profits from buying/selling an ETF are taxed at 40% which sucks when you're trying to build wealth using index funds. When buying/selling individual shares the profit is taxed at 33%. That's a decent difference. So yes imo it can be worth it to just buy the individual equities. I would d...

Before attempting to answer your question, I gotta ask.....what's the point? 1) i find the subject of wealth accumulation interesting 2) things changed in my life since i joined the forum (although i was never too active) and so did my perspective (which was much more ere-like in the beginning than...

What would you do to become "rich"?

In this forum there are mostly discussions on how to cut spending, deflate the lifestyle, etc to reach FIRE asap and without insane amounts of capital. But more rarely there seem to be discussions about how to use the principles of frugality, working hard and investing to help the endeavor of amassi...

Re: Homesteading for the bare minimum of expenses

Or you could work another 4 to 5 years and have a 1 million+ bucks portfolio and live life on easy mode. Don't want to be a naysayer but it will be insanely difficult to reach that level of self sufficiency. It will take years to complete the project for sure. Do it if you really want to, but financ...

Re: Dennis Meadows, Co-Author of Limits To Growth: Peak Prosperity Interview

I would be interested to see these studies which explain how we can successfully make a change to an electricity-based infrastructure (all internal combustion engines subbed out) and pay the cost of all the batteries which need to be swapped every 10 years and keep up with the demands of the curren...

Re: Dennis Meadows, Co-Author of Limits To Growth: Peak Prosperity Interview

@iopsi People are pessimistic because that is the direction indicated by the available evidence. It might be possible to convince people otherwise if resorting to arguments other than buzzwordy tech boosting and 10% efficiency + 10% efficiency = 20% efficiency math. To sustain, roughly, current eco...

Other than living on a finite planet.
Finite planet with more than enough for everybody tho.

Also in the far future humanity might not be limited to this planet's resources.

I consider myself lucky, cause i started weight training thanks to a few friends, when i was 17. Since i was a bit of a nerd, the objective then was to get the infamous beach body with 6 packs abs to get girls ofc (which wasn't nearly as successful as i though lol, i simply became a gym nerd instead...

Re: ERE with massive spending

I heard this argument put forward a few times. I actually doubt this will be the case. I actually fear it will be the opposite--by far. By making driving less costly (more relaxing, less demanding, etc.), you encourage driving. I am not sure so much money would be pouring into developing these tech...
