Re: Midsize Lebowski would love it if you'd come and give him notes on Semi-ERE

Began volunteering at an urban farm 3 days per week learning the ropes of commercial market gardening. As it's become clear this is a vocation of choice with many positive first order side effects. Investments continuing nicely, this month a bit stagnant as 10 day visit to family was booked- I don't...

Re: Lemur Journal!

Hello Lemur! On a whim I read your journal in it's entirety, congrats on your progress thus far. Just watched this video last night and your mention of the food forest and living in MD makes me think the mid-atlantic climate is likely close to this guy's in NJ - wildly unpredictable  . He has a...

Re: Midsize Lebowski would love it if you'd come and give him notes on Semi-ERE

Thank you much for your insight bigato and C_L! August saw a return to form on the savings front as expenses returned to normal. Getting in the groove with the new schedule, have had a lot more time to think of where I want to take things going forward. I'm enjoying the 3 on/4 off schedule in spite ...

Re: classical_Liberal's Semi-ERE

Congrats C_L! Looking forward to hearing hoe semi-ere treats you. On the off chance you do end up in Santa Barbara for a bit, I've got lentils on the stove if you're hungry!

Re: Midsize Lebowski would love it if you'd come and give him notes on Semi-ERE

Not much to update aside from moving. DGF now works a 6 minute bike ride from our residence. Unsavory month on the expenses front, saving only 25% of $5230 net income for the month. Travel for work conference, moving costs, etc. Looking forward to seeing what things look like with a "normal" month c...

Re: Lemur Journal!

Glad to hear you're experiencing personal growth in your employment Lemur, that's more rare than one might realize! I've often thought about the value of the work environment in ensuring introverts don't become too isolated, particularly in the absence of family/friends/significant other, etc. To yo...

Re: classical_Liberal's Semi-ERE

Excited for you c_L, your analysis behind everything seems very sound and it's been helpful watching you formulate it over your journal. This work arrangement sounds almost molded to your plan. What's the outdoors exercise of choice as of late? Excited to see how you take to the new lifestyle, congr...

Re: Midsize Lebowski would love it if you'd come and give him notes on Semi-ERE

June '19 Update: This marks a full year since having began tracking expenses, totals come in at - 53k net income, 30k almost to the dollar saved for a total of 56.6%. Should easily improve upon this in the coming year as skill level/lifestyle has changed dramatically since beginning ERE journey last...

Re: classical_Liberal's Semi-ERE

Those 3 charts are fantastic C_L, your buckets approach/stop-loss point for the worst-case scenario seems to filter most of the risk inherent to the semi-ere strategy. It's hard to imagine you sitting idly by as things tank for 5 years straight without lifting a finger to sure up your position as we...

Re: I Saved Some Money, Accumulated So Good

Certainly feel you here. I've found it helpful to focus on mutual interests with coworkers/clients who I'm in flat disagreement with (typically political/ethics oriented). It has been helpful in times of inflammatory remarks like "shooting immigrants" to reflect upon the emotions/states in others wh...

Re: Midsize Lebowski would love it if you'd come and give him notes on Semi-ERE

@ C_L your situation echoes our own- we've had some very small amounts of friction when DGF makes purchases I feel unnecessary due to my covering utilities/food as she has been focused on paying down debt. I think making the move to empower her to do so faster and returning to a 50/50 split should r...

Re: Midsize Lebowski would love it if you'd come and give him notes on Semi-ERE

Thanks for your thoughts Cheepnis! 30% is child's play amongst our fellow forumites, but I suppose it'll do! I will - we're in southern/coastal California so certainly a year-round season here. Truth be told a 30% savings rate is kick ass! I thinking trading a high SR number in exchange for time to ...

Re: Midsize Lebowski would love it if you'd come and give him notes on Semi-ERE

Early update this month due to some upcoming life changes... Maintained net income at $6836, a slight increase in fact. Savings rate down a bit to 61% as I underestimated taxes at the beginning of last year and ended up owing a little over $1k at the tax deadline. As for the changes: Going to be exp...

Re: I Saved Some Money, Accumulated So Good

Congrats on the great savings rate and excited to see how your construction venture goes Cheepnis! Rerouting waste and combining it with skills you already have seems like a very natural bridge to side-income. With your spending it'll be particularly interesting as it's not difficult to imagine it c...

Re: Fox's Journey: And Onto the Sunlight!

You're supposed to do other shit with your life and not be concerned outside of when you see her. Your problem is that you're swimming in a goddamn bathtub man. You live in Miami, it's a huge city, start going out in public places and learn how to meet people from cold-approach. It'll change your li...

Re: Midsize Lebowski would love it if you'd come and give him notes on Semi-ERE

Thanks for your thoughts here and over the past few posts CL! What I'm currently leaning towards is the middle road approach- continuing to work full time for another ~2 years before dropping down to 75% time around age 30 for as long as it remains fulfilling. During this time period I'll continue p...

Re: Midsize Lebowski would love it if you'd come and give him notes on Semi-ERE

Been a great month for work, bringing home about $6800 post expenses (tax). Starting to feel a little stir-crazy with the punch it in punch it out lifestyle of a full time client load though. Came to some interesting realizations recently that have been tempting me to turn to semi-ere sooner rather ...

C40 what was your experience like/thoughts on the year in Tucson? We seem to have similar interests/leanings in taste when it comes to peers/dating and Tucson has been floated as an idea for future home base. Likely arranging an AZ/southwest tour to scout out locations this year. Read through your j...

Re: Midsize Lebowski would love it if you'd come and give him notes on Semi-ERE

Thanks CL! I'm inclined to do the same with the buckets approach, most likely using my SEP-IRA as my old-age fund - I'll work to get that funded to a projected future value of 4% WR not factoring in social security. For FU/semi-ERE funding I'll look to fund roughly 5-10x annual living expenses, good...
