Re: Are Tim Ferris, Tucker Max, Chris Gullibeau and other millionaire authors more discouraging than helpful?

I think your last sentence rings true: if we do not need or even want to be uber-rich, then we should not follow their "path" to the letter. If a person knows their personal goals (financial or not) and takes the steps to achieve them, then yes, these people can be beneficial as they provi...

Re: How Much to Put in 401k/Roth IRA?

So I currently see it as gaining some tax benefit to saving in the 401k/roth/IRA while forgoing some liquidity. Assuming that I get a job after college, the plan would be to live frugal and have money for use in the near future while also having a tax-advantaged hedge for the far future. Does this s...

Re: How Much to Put in 401k/Roth IRA?

So you can ONLY withdraw the principal that you put in, not anything gained from interest/growth?

Is this a 401k thing as well or would you have to roll that into your Roth IRA/traditional IRA before withdrawal?

How Much to Put in 401k/Roth IRA?

The penalty-free withdrawal age for these types of retirement plans is 59~ years. ERE strives for retirement much earlier than that. I understand that the purpose of ERE is to develop skills to live a life that is more loosely coupled to money, thus requiring less or improvising, but these retiremen...

Re: Book Management

Thanks for all the replies. I'm thinking about using the library and doing e-books as I go on but also getting plenty of paper books using bookshelves. I believe that the knowledge to be gained from the books would outweigh the space that they take up within the home and therefore I should go and ge...

Re: Book Management

I'm currently reading all the PF, and corporate strategy books that are in the house, but for books that I have already read, should I sell them? Do any of you have a desire to reread books to refresh your mind on the details and catch things you missed? Or are books a once-and-done thing for you gu...

Re: Book Management

Is there a specific reason why you detest the kindle? I'm not actually using a physical kindle, rather the kindle app/emulator to read on my computer.

Re: Hello from an Almost-Adult

Welcome CrypticAgent! Is reading PF stuff very common among your peers too? In another introduction there is also a young guy. I wonder if it is very popular/common to know about MMM, etc. among young people? Do you talk about that with your friends? Well, have a great start. I just take money more...

Re: Book Management

Right now, I've downloaded the kindle app on my computer, so that will allow me to read with only my hard drive as physical space taken up. With a 27 inch monitor, this would be quite a bit of space to read on. As for other book needs, i'll definitely check out the library to see if they have the bo...

Book Management

I always look around and see the people on this forum recommending various books, and I want to read a lot of books while I learn more when progressing through life. However, looking at the pile of books that my parents have (it's like a cubic meter block of books), I was wondering if there was a di...

Hello from an Almost-Adult

Hello, I am a 17 year old living near Philadelphia, and I have been reading a lot of the PF stuff online, both Jacob's Blog, MMM, and the ERE Forums and I decided to see if I could plan life out so that I can spend money on the things that really matter (cutting out waste). Currently about to apply ...
