Re: Operation Bail The Parents Out Planning
Naturally, I tend to take control of everything and put it on a spreadsheet, so I have a tendency to overstep in the name of financial solvency. >:D Each time you overstep and take control today you are sending them a message that you will do so in the future. Another way to tackle the problem woul...

Re: Will the cis-female bubble ever pop?
It depends on the criteria you are using in your rating. Looks? Good provider? Confidence? Charisma/Personality? Kindness? A cis-male who is an 8 in kindness and confidence as well as a 9 in situation-appropriate goofiness and silliness gets a big points boost in overall attractiveness because women...

Your worst nightmare. What if you retired at a stock market peak and continued to live off 4% a year?

Re: Lending a girlfriend money
For those who are adamantly against, what amount would make it okay to give her the money? $100? $500? How long would the relationship have to be to make it okay to give her the $1500? 1 year? Marriage? Never? He seems to respect her despite her inability to save. What if she is the love of his life...

Yesterday the Union of Concerned Scientists reversed their position on nuclear power. Decommissioned plants are being replaced by fossil fuels so they now want to keep nuke plants open.

Re: Lending a girlfriend money
Some things are more important than money. Do you see the relationship going anywhere? Do you see the potential that your girlfriend will someday get her financial situation together?

Re: Deep Adaptation
Is multi-generational adaptation possible? There are so many unknown variables.
The first adaptation should be to not have a child. How could anyone who knows the scientific consensus and grasps the severity of the predictions do otherwise?

Re: Nothing to do in retirement
https://www.outline.com/pxuurs When I was struggling with “how to retire”, the most impactful insight came from Tom Gilovich, a leading psychologist and former chair of the Cornell Psychology Department. He told me that I was more likely to find fulfillment and balance in retirement if I focused on ...

Re: IPCC Report
Government cannot fix this, it never could. This isn't a group coordination problem. It never was. But right now, all across the world, a lot of people are suffering and dieing. I'm not sure how much more I should care about the suffering of theoretical people from a problem that cannot be solved t...

Re: IPCC Report
brute continues to be a "luke-warmist", even (or especially after) the new IPCC report. the climate is probably warming, and humans probably contributed to it. it's probably going to be fine, unless the government gets involved. (especially since the "expert advice" from the IPC...

Re: IPCC Report
This is a very complicated kind of clusterfuck. Interesting times! I'm morbidly curious to see it but I won't live long enough. Assuming there is nothing that can be done to solve the problem, If you were Donald Trump what would you do? As I read the report I selfishly thought that building walls, ...

Re: Warning: WH seeks to limit/deport immigrants using ACA and other gov. services
I have already lived outside of Denmark for too many years to receive anything from Danish social security, even if I move back now. Conversely, I do have enough points to get US SS. Under the new rules, if you had used government benefits including the ACA for health insurance you could lose your ...

Re: Warning: WH seeks to limit/deport immigrants using ACA and other gov. services
Right now I'm just working to get to a point where diversification is easier. I'm leaning towards flag theory(*) but first I need to get closer to a point where flag theory is possible. Knowing what you know today, if you could go back in time, what would you have done differently and when would yo...
