Re: ChickenCoop's Scraps

Finally getting back onto the DIY solar hot water system. Ive finished building the hot water store and have the 6 panels up and running. I still have to finish making the heat exchanger for the wood heater. It feels good to have it working from the sun at least. Non long before I can get the town g...

Re: Holding Cash Until Coronavirus is Settled

I have no idea how bad this is going to get. What I do know, is the last 9 nine Bear markets averaged 14 months in length. We are only 1 month into this one. I will probably start DCA'ing in from about the 9th month, around November, at 10% per month.

Re: leveraging into equities?

Thank you everyone for your replies. I won't individually respond to you all because I don't know how to do the quote thing. so I will try cover things generally. These borrowed funds would be a loan against RE, so there would be no risk of margin calls. I would ONLY use these funds after allocating...

leveraging into equities?

Just thoughts at this stage... I went to the bank last week to enquire about borrowing money now, to use maybe later when or if stocks continue to tumble. The idea was to draw down the loan and have it all sitting in the offset acc against the loan, so that no interest would be paid. If I decide not...

Re: Alice_AU journal

Hi Alice, I used to live life pretty hard , Burning the candle both ends, drinking/Partying every weekend etc. I didn't want to live a long life either. I just lived in the moment in everything! I also lived paycheck to paycheck. I did buy a cheapish house (3-4x annual income) an hour from Melb. I n...

Re: The 4% Rule – A Castle in the Air

Because I can't know what the future brings, What i'm doing is to prepare for the worst and hope for the best. I understand that this may be a pessimists approach and will bring about a lower return if things turn out more rosy than my expectation. So I will be working longer to be able to reduce my...

Re: Asset Allocation?

The majority of the cash is at only 1.2%. About a quarter of it is at 2.15% currently. I can't move the lower rate cash as it's in a tax advantaged acc. It can be moved to other asset classes, but not to money market acc's. I could move the smaller amount(that's at 2.15%) to an offset acc against th...

Re: Asset Allocation?

I've recently starting following Ray Dalio's Thoughts on long term cycles. Here is some of his his thoughts: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/three-big-issues-1930s-analogue-ray-dalio/?trackingId=%2FWn4y%2FkXRGqftSW6AYi5hA%3D%3D One thing I've heard is that Gov's could remove cash from economies and d...

Re: Asset Allocation?

@Lucky C, Thank you for your thoughtful response. I should have been a bit clearer regarding the real estate. The house I mentioned(that I want to keep) is an Investment property, and not the house we live in. I haven't included the family home in this equation. Does this change your thoughts at all...

Asset Allocation?

I've been trying to work out an asset allocation that sits well with me and my Investment time frame. -I have an investment property that I want to keep in the mix. -I have about 8 Years until I leave my full time work(may go part time). -I don't have much tolerance for risk. (or want to offset some...

Re: ChickenCoop's Scraps

@Wolf, Thanks for the link, Yeah, That sits pretty well with me. I'll do something like that. @Bigato, Ive started reading, but Maybe I've been reading the wrong things. I've been reading Ray Dalio's articles on Market cycles. That is what has me aware of where we are in the current long term busine...
