Re: Phase III - Deja Vu All Over Again
Happy birthday early! Congrats- you're doing great and ahead of some of us on the ER path. WRT "Next up is an exterior paint job, which I'll also probably hire out. My discomfort with heights and ladders is an expensive personality trait, alas." I'd say since you are over the age of 29, av...

Re: Hristo's FI Journal
Regarding UBI or work optional unemployment, Milton Friedman said the following or something very close: "If you start paying people to be poor, pretty soon you're going to have a lot of poor people." I'm not progressing near your speed but currently about 3/4 in on Crime and Punishment - ...

Enjoy and am impressed with your journal. Everyone's situation is different. For me, enduring stress with housing and kids for 15+ years with SO has been a challenging journey. We are now in a better place - bless you on your path.

Re: Experience with the adoption process?
Yes experience - both challenging and rewarding - and sometimes you can't tell the difference. Not for the timid. Are you a gradually wade into the pool while holding the tropical umbrella drink only between 75 and 95 degrees kind of person or a jump into Lake Superior with the Polar Bear Club type?...

@C40 thanks so much for the detailed description of what you use! I'm starting with a grinder and milk steamer along with aeropress for now. Cheers!

After years of trying various recipes I found what seems to be best pizza dough yet from "Mastering Pizza" by Marc Vetri. He recommends trying in cast iron skillet as well, which turned out great.

Agree with @Lemur on no "perfect" job. I read Designing Your Life (Burnett and Evans) per a recommendation on another ERE journal I believe and am glad I read it. Lots of good advice on how to process and evaluate options. The biggest takeaway for me was that there are many good workable o...

I also had it close to 10 years ago after being on vacation from a desk job and walking much more than normal several days in a row. After wearing a rigid plastic boot night and day and then continuing at night for what seems like a few weeks the condition improved and completely went away. I hope y...

Suo thanks for this post and the journal. This is helpful insight and articulates what I think about. Once dreams become reality, one sleeps again with new dreams. If you can optimize your current reality, then perhaps you don't set expectations too high for the next set of circumstances/goal. Paren...

Re: Gus' road to retirement
Given various circumstances, 2 years seems like a long way out to find the forever home. But regardless what happens, we'll all be aboard the train. How long do you expect to b in the forever home - 10/20/30 years? It seems that if prices go down interest rates may go up. Maybe you can limit to a fe...

I was hit on an 80's MTB converted to sweet commuter (welded dropout extensions paint touch up etc.) that totaled it and replaced it with a Surly. I like the Surly but not as much as the totaled bike. If you don't want to keep the Surly for backup (e.g. You are ready to ride to work in morning and t...

Enjoy the journal and definitely agree on the lack of need for fitbits and appreciation for the trusted Timex watches - although they too seem to be disposable. I also seem to get only about half the longevity out of them.

Great posts cmonkey and very motivating - thanks! Couple of questions: 1) I did not notice a response to prior inquiry on healthcare costs if there are any beyond HSA - are there other monthly expenses or are health insurance premiums covered by employer? 2) How do you expect monthly expenses to cha...
