Re: A Journey of Mindfulness--the Remaking of Life in Midstream.
Ooh, you could build one of those sideways chimney heater things. I forget what they're called, but I think there was as thread on here where I first learned about them. Best of all, you can build it yourself out of mud and rocks! I think when I first learned about them I watched a youtube video on...

Re: Adderal & its effects?
I took adderall a while back for ADHD, but I only took it for a grand total of a month. It made me feel really weird; kinda like a robot. I dunno how to describe it really, but it wasn't very pleasant. I was a little more productive, however. I personally found Vyvanse to be much better. No weird fe...

Re: ERE VS communism
Well, in theory, it may actually make you freeier - because you don't need to go through the accumulation phase of ERE to acquire that degree of freedom. You just start out with that degree of freedom. Being able to switch roles to the degree imagined in the OP is something that's quite difficult to...

Re: ERE Dating Strategy
I think dating is an activity for which many people actually over-prepare and/or use over-preparation as an excuse for procrastination or...? I've met a few people like that, and I may perhaps have been guilty of that myself at a few points in my life. But, at least in my personal experience,...

Re: ERE Dating Strategy
@Seven I'm pretty familiar with the podcast that the OP mentioned (I've listened to the all of them at this point), so I'll take a stab at this. What they're arguing for in the podcast isn't to adopt a set of tactics, it is to become attractive; ie, develop attractive habits. It's not that you're tr...

Re: IPCC Report
At least nuclear war gives you a reasonably good chance of being vaporized (ie, dying very quickly) as opposed to struggling with everyone else to get what food remains, until finally succumbing at the end anyways (ie: drawn out death)? Or did I interpret Jacob's post overly negatively? Yes and no. ...

Meanwhile, Alaska just gets bluer and bluer (ie, wetter) as time goes on! It's looking like a homestead in Alaska is the best way to go in terms of weathering out climate change.

Re: Is the US economy good? Bad? Both?
In my area employers have a very hard time finding any employees, including for full time jobs. If 23% are discouraged or involuntarily working only part time, how could this be? There are even sign up bonuses for mundane jobs that require no special skills. The hiring situation is even more challe...

Re: Is the US economy good? Bad? Both?
Is the unemployment rate actually low though? Shadowstats is pegging it at 23%, which includes short and long term discouraged workers and those working in part-times jobs only because they cannot find full-time work.

Re: The Rise of Bullshit Jobs
Look at healthcare. The billing rules are so complex that hospitals need masses of administrators that would not be necessary if compensation/insurance was determined by a private sector. My understanding is most of the complexity in hospital billing is because of conflicting requirements\different...

Re: Swiss vote to end fractional reserve banking
I think the massive volatility in the value of bitcoin has more to do with people betting it'll be the future, rather than volatility being an inherent property of bitcoin. Bitcoin is, at its core, just a distributed time-stamping service (the block-chain) with a difficulty function controlling the ...

Re: Best DNS service?
I personally use cloudflare's https://1.1.1.1/ . It's fast, run by a company that isn't in the advertising business, and at least claims to not track your activity (except for certain 'research purposes'). It has also been reliable in my experience, in addition to offering DNSSEC\DNS over HTTPS supp...

good point. intuitively, brute is more for open borders than for closing them further. if welfare programs were toned down/didn't exist, how bad could it be? If folks are willing to accept rape as a 'cost of entry' as it stands now, even with the promise of at most minimal welfare, I suspect that o...
