Re: Savings with subscription services?

Oh man. You've got my gears turning @jacob! Never even thought of reselling the individual products from the boxes on eBay. That'll be a fun little weekend project I can do. I have been using Prime Fresh, too. Going to check out Boxed and Walmart now to see if I can find any additional savings. Than...

Savings with subscription services?

Anyone using subscription services to cut costs on everyday items? Sorry if this is TMI, but I'm not much of a victorias secret girl...I just like comfy undies. So, I've been considering meundies since they're pretty much showing up everywhere these days: https://www.thriftycrates.com/meundies-box-r...

Re: $280,000 for a retired couple?

I can't imagine that a blanket statement like that is valid. Everyone's situation and needs are different. But, to me, $140,000 per person for medical expenses throughout retirement sounds low. Remember...we're all living a whoooole lot longer than we used to live. You should expect a 20-30 year ret...

Re: Laptop recommedations

I just got a thinkpad and love it. But, that's probably not helpful to you if you're a Mac junkie. The best bang for your buck would be if you were to build your own. Reddit has a great subreddit r/buildapc. You'll be able to teach yourself, buy parts, and build the computer in a weekend. From what ...

Re: Friendships changing

I am absolutely experiencing this too. I still have all my "long time" friends... but it's really starting to feel like I don't have much to talk about with them anymore at social events. With my head being so focused on my lifestyle and financial independence, it's obvious that there's a ...

Re: Possible jobs for semi-retirement

You sound like you'd love being a gig-worker. Try looking for gigs on sites like Upwork and Freelancer. If anything, you can simply write for websites. I've done this before and have made anywhere between $50 and $150 for a single blog post. Best part about it is that it's location independent and ...

My suggestions to my younger self would be:

Millionaire Fastlane
Eat That Frog
Checklist Manifesto
Economics in One Lesson
Intelligent Investor

Honorary shoutout to 4 Hour Workweek too. It's mostly hype and motivation... but that is exactly what a newbie to FI needs!

It sounds like he must have had a great view.

This sort of lifestyle is really romantic... but hearing realities like that helps me realize it's not for me.

Re: UC Berekely now offers Data Science / Python course for free

Yeah, these free courses are awesome. At one time, I thought I was going to be a coder (LOL) and found a bunch of free courses from Harvard.

Looks like they have a free data science course too:

Ohhhh I love these RVer's and their nomadic lifestyles. It always seems so romantic to me.

I used to follow a guy named Tynan. He was a poker player / coder that just traveled the country in his RV.

Here's a walk through of his old rig: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tylz5sfCAOc

Hi Janet,

I see you're from NY. The biggest cost in NYC can be housing. Do you rent a flat? Do you have a roommate?
I'm renting with a roommate right now. $1,200 a month for my bedroom and shared use of a small living room and bathroom. Fun!

Re: Is frugality for the rich?

Using Frugality as a vehicle to wealth is for people that have no control over their time or the amount of $$$ they can earn. They're hourly or salaried *workers*. Personally, I'd like to move to being the person that has people working for her.... a business owner. I want to know that there's no ca...

Janet from NY

Heyyy everyone. I'm so glad I found ERE. I've been on a major "lifestyle design" kick as of recent. I've read both the four-hour workweek and millionaire fastlane... both kind of lit a fire under my butt. I'm here to be able to chat with like-minded folks who are dedicated to obtaining fin...
