Re: Investing for 1st time - Denmark
I think frinans.dk is a good place to start if you're new and want to do index investing. He recommends specific funds and investing platforms. The guy behind it, Sune, is also the one who started the FIRE Danmark facebook group. Ps: on another note, my job pays for my PFA pension, but I don’t get i...

In case anyone is wondering: The extended video interview is 1h 11m (which you can access for $5). The free audio version is 55m.

Re: Cloud Solution for my trading tool?
@FreeLiving I'm curious to what this tool is doing? Are you willing to hint about what the overall idea is? I'm building a screening tool myself. It scrapes some Morningstar data and then does a ranking of the stocks based on some financial and valuation ratios - inspired by Joel Greenblatt's "...

Re: Just another journal
Since last time I posted, I've started learning Spanish on Duolingo; they've done a great job of gamifying the learning which really works for me. I usually do 15 minutes a day. I don't have any particular goal in mind, but it's fun trying to learn something new. I was never particularly fond of Ger...

Re: The expedient's journal towards ERE
I think you're touching on some of the relevant features of why developers are drawn to ERE/FIRE. We also have frinans as the biggest FIRE advocate in Denmark, and he's a developer, too, as I'm sure you know. I guess it's a personality type thing; I score ISTJ in MBTI tests, which I recall jacob say...

@Cheepnis Yes, I think health wise it's just as good. It's just that I've been lifting heavy things for four years now, so it's a mental adjustment getting used to another mode of weight lifting. I've been doing Starting Strength/5x5 type workouts. I think body builders generally do more reps than w...

Re: The expedient's journal towards ERE
Hi saltefanden, I'm also part of the "Danish software developer, found FIRE"-group :) I very much relate to your epiphany when finding ERE for the first time. I'm very happy with my own fixie for biking around Copenhagen, but I do have both front and rear break. I really appreciate the eas...

Re: Just another journal
Work has become crazy busy. Our startup (or, I think we call it a scale up now) is making lab equipment, which can be used for some component of corona testing, so we went from selling half a machine a week to three a week. I can definitely feel the long days at work taking a toll. I've read The Mon...

I use the XIRR function in my spreadsheet. Try googling XIRR and investments. I guess there's something similar in GnuCash?

Re: Just another journal
So I didn't stick with meditating :) It's one of those things (like doing pushups at home) that's really hard to establish as a habit. I still feel like I gained some insight from it, so I can sometimes stop up and reflect on the thoughts I'm having. Seeing this journal was a good reminder of doing ...

If anyone has a gift card left for Wheaton's latest book, I'd like to read it. I'm in Denmark, so I think ebook is the easiest.

Re: Daylen's Instinctual Dump
This is super interesting and exciting - it's the best to learn about new concepts like this :) I definitely have an internal monologue. I'm not sure if it ever shuts off - not for long at least. I definitely thought everybody had this. Having conversations in your head, etc. Just stumbled upon apha...

Re: Just another journal
I've started meditating. I was intrigued by it after having heard a podcast where they talked about a 10 day silent retreat. That led me to Sam Harris' app Waking Up, for which I'm now 17 days into the 50 days introduction course that consists of guided meditations. There are also thirty or so 10 mi...

If the vendor no longer supplies OS updates (or they start failing), you can flash a new OS on the phone. I put LineageOS on my old Samsung S4 mini with great success - it almost feels like a new phone. It also has the advantage of being more open (and open source), so you can install, e.g., ad bloc...

@jacob I am patching tubes now - dunno if that was clear from what I wrote. First time I tried to patch a tube, I messed it up. Second time, I wasn't sure whether I did a good job, so I put in a new tube and left the patched one out overnight to see if it stayed inflated - it did, so now I have a sp...

My girlfriend has been very enthusiastic about ERE after I've started talking about it. We cook cheaper with less meat. She has opened a brokerage account and invested in stocks. She has started selling old stuff she's not using anymore. At the moment she's not looking to retire very early, since sh...

Re: Journal From A Dane
Congratulations on the new job. I did matched betting, too, and came to the same conclusion, that once you're out of sign up offers, there's not much more to be had except occasional free bets, but they are usually not very big (<100 DKK). How are you doing milking casino offers? I didn't think you ...

Re: Playing with fire docu
@GandK I thought the same. It went very quickly from frustration to happiness at the end of the documentary. I guess the intermezzo at Camp Mustache was supposed to be the revelatory experience that convinced them(?) - if not in reality, then at least as a narrative tool. I also feel the choice of b...

Re: Playing with fire docu
Ally Bank (which is also briefly featured in the documentary) is providing free stream of Playing with Fire on Vimeo: https://vimeo.com/374814086 (password is FIRE) I found out about the deal on the Danish FIRE facebook page. I'm not sure where the deal originates, but Ally appears to be officially ...
