Re: Starting a podcast on Podbean and others

Yes, I read the comments about Jacob's podcast and the not so great sound quality and volume. Looks like this is probably number one thing to make sure you master. No matter how interesting the subject is, if the sound is unbearable people will not listen for too long. It is definitely on my radar. ...

Starting a podcast on Podbean and others

Hello, I am contemplating starting podcast episodes about a topic dear to me : housing. Being in a privileged position of having access to major players in the local housing industry (real estate agent, contractor, lumberyard manager, etc.), my goal is to discuss with them and provide answers on var...

Re: Nomadland Movie

Probably is. Haven't seen it but read the book a few years ago. Really enjoyed it. The life stories of the people she is following introduced me to a reality I was not aware about ( from a Canadian perspective ).
A real eye opener.

Re: Anticonsumerist's Journal

Hi anticonsumerist, Have you looked into each provinces ? For some of them have their own point systems... sort of.. I am thinking Quebec (French) and Saskatchewan, Manitoba. Their might me more. Those provinces are hungry for immigrants and once you have your canadian paperwork, no obligations to s...

Re: Freedom 45 from Pierre Yves Mcsween

Yeah, after dating a journalist for a few months last winter, I learned a bit more about what it means to follow the editorial line. Worst, I just noticed the writer is actually not a journalist but rather a commentator (thank you Loner and ertyu). That fits the JDM habit, 90% of their content is ei...

Re: Freedom 45 from Pierre Yves Mcsween

Oh Wow ! Sorry I am only seeing this now. I feel sorry for the journalist writting this piece in JDM, he sounds like a very sour grape. I wish him good luck building a happier life. Maybe he should taste a bit more often the delightful aroma of being a free man/woman. To excuse him though, JDM is no...

Re: Dumpster Diving

Hello again, sorry for the very late reply and thank you for all the contributions. I wish I knew more in electronics and how to fix bike ! I have been to the dumpster many times in the last few weeks, taking vegetables and fruits home. All kind of vegetables and so far, mostly exotic and expensive ...

Re: Dumpster Diving

Yes, rodent, bats shit or cuts... I didn't think about those potential hazards, thanks. If I limit my DD to winter season that should take car of bats shit ( they are hibernating or gone south). As for the rodent, the dumpster seems rodent proof and pretty clean. I will pay attention next time if I ...

Re: Dumpster Diving

In those times of Covid, I was not sure to resume dumpster diving but I finally did. Nice catch last night : mushrooms, kale, shallots, squash, pear, bell peppers and two pommegranates. There is only vegetables and fruits in that particular dumpster. Winter is here now and daily temperature are belo...

Re: Freedom 45 from Pierre Yves Mcsween

Yes, I heard Jean-Sébastien Pilotte and his partner a few years ago at a radio show (Medium Large). It was when the Quebec media paid attention to the FIRE scene for a few months in 2018. But, yeah, not so much interesting when you are somewhere else in terms of Wheaton levels. I, too find most PF b...

Re: Keep repairing old Jeep or replace?

@Sclass Thanks for the advice. I didn't think the Corolla had that kind of problems looking at reviews but I am not an expert. The early 2000 Subarus have well know issues about troubled pistons that leads to the head gasket replacement. I was keeping an eye on oil level with the Subaru. I will keep...

Freedom 45 from Pierre Yves Mcsween

Fellow Canadians and Quebecers : What are you thoughts about this new book from Pierre Yves Mcsween ? Have not read it and wondering if that could be a good candidate for a book request at the local public library. My understanding is that he is not talking about FI or ERE but rather having your shi...

Re: Keep repairing old Jeep or replace?

Hello, A little update since June : I like the Corolla. Gas millage is quite something compare to the Subaru. It cost only $45 to fill up the tank and that will last me for a month. In a twisted way, I actually drive a little bit more now because I know of the gas millage which kills a little bit th...

Re: Real estate vs. Stocks long term: stocks win by a landslide?

Good question. I am in the midst of re-thinking my future investment strategy. I have one rental property that covers half of my living expenses. The other half could be covered by another property I am developing and planning to turn into another rental. I am now debating that option after I had a ...

Re: Meals That Travel Well

I would look into backpacking cooking book.

Recipes/meals that are lightweight, require little cooking ( as long as you can boil water ) and no refrigeration. Many recipes don't require dehydrating food yourself.

Re: Modern Icebox

Is anyone using a thermoelectric fridge/cooler regularly ? I am just putting the final touch on my off grid cabin and I am debating about the fridge issue. I have 2 x 250w solar panels. Plenty of sun in the land of the midnight sun from April to August. But not enough in winter ( above 60th parallel...

Re: How does your personal care regimen conform to or deviate from what is considered normal for your age and gender?

I am at day 11 of going without shampoo ( no poo on google ). I went cold turkey. The oily / greasyness has stabilized at day 7. May takes a few more week to get rid of the excess oil production. My hair are a little longer than my shoulder, naturally thin and straight. At this point, I am only wash...

Re: Keep repairing old Jeep or replace?

Yes, MMM has a great blog post about it. https://www.mrmoneymustache.com/2011/12/08/turning-a-little-car-into-a-big-one/ The corolla came with a hitch so I could possibly get a large cargo box attached on it. But I will not tow a trailer, would be too risky to wreck the transmission. The back seats ...
