Re: Living a FI (Update)
For a while now I've been focusing on exploring the concept of purpose after work, because I realize this is a much more pressing issue than a concern about running out of funds. So true. I've been in a fortunate situation lately where I'm able to take a LOA with my company and still collect unempl...

Living a FI (Update)
After five years of no post on his blog, I was surprised to see an email notification of an update this morning. Livingafi was one of my favorite FI bloggers and the update is worth reading.

Re: Wad's Journal
I'm not sure I can provide any insights or advice for your cousin. I know a couple of guys who went to those Auto mechanic institutes with the same desire to work at Mercedes/Lexus/BMW. They found that its a very competitive niche and ended up at low-end dealerships with little pay. For my situation...

Yes, Im also curious. How has your time been? Is it what you expected? Likes/dislikes? Are you dating locals? Climate and air quality? Is this a place you could see yourself living long term if visas weren't an issue? Sorry for so many questions. I have plans on visiting in a few years as Thailand i...

Re: Journals that go from high spending to 1 - 2 Jacob level spending
You shouldn't be in the process of lowering your expenses. You should be in the process of finding out what your life is about, and designing accordingly. In other words: Say no to EVERYTHING! Absolutely everything, even ERE, and start adding back on the vital parts of your existence. In time you'l...

Re: Why Index Funds Are Like Subprime CDOs
Looks like TD Ameritrade offers CFRA reports. I can't tell if I would be able to pull reports for any stock or if they just offer general industry outlook reports. I believe we are talking about the same reports. Purchasing these reports directly from their website is not wise.

Re: Why Index Funds Are Like Subprime CDOs
DIY fundamental analysis plays no role in the way I invest. I leave that to others ... I just read the CFRA reports instead. Analyzing that one company was helpful in understanding where a given number in the analyst report comes from (e.g. what is a quick ratio) or whether 1.2 is "a lot"...

Are you getting any yield on the cash? If not consider Money market accounts as they are paying 2% or more right now. I use vanguard's money market to store all cash.

Re: Time spent with Friends/Family
I know if I get into a horribly social situation, like say a baby shower or a restaurant group setting with more than 2 other persons, my brain will start shutting down "external sensors" trying to protect itself from the sensory overload. The side effect of this is that I become irritate...

Time spent with Friends/Family
As an INTJ homebody, I allocate about one day per month for family and meet up with my friends once every couple of months as they are busy starting and raising their families. I have a family that loves and supports me and 6 true friends. The time spent with 5 of my friends is typically a golf outi...

It's something that I considered but I will feel better with a safe or safety deposit box. I don't feel comfortable with 10% of NW hiding in plain sight.

Re: Gold
Agree with all of MI post above. Does anyone have a recommendation for a high-quality home safe? I'm looking for a small but heavy safe to store gold. Id prefer one to weigh 250-300 pounds which would stop most people from walking out the door with it and fire proof. I considered a safe deposit box ...

Im looking to purchase a couple of 10oz bars. I looked into goldmoney.com and found customer reviews concerning. In regards to shipping cost, it seems like most sites are free although I'm not sure about insurance. Anyone used JM Bullion?
