Re: The Road Goes on Forever--Sometimes in Circles

it's one of those economics type models. many simplifying assumptions, etc., but actions based on it end up successfully selecting for the desired type of partner - in this case, a male who would be familiar with and then be able to act the corresponding "guy" role.

We're all that elephant that was tied to a post since it was a kid and now thinks that if it's got rope around its leg it can't move even though it's now large and strong and can tear out the post if it would only put its mind to it

I mean, if a picture is interjected out of nowhere of in between declarations of love, as long as no one explicitly said, "hey can you send me a picture of your dick, id love that," it is still unsolicited? Being in a relationship with someone doesn't automatically make every sexual act co...

The way to deal with this is to say, "Maybe I'm not objectively fat / yeah I'm not objectively fat, but if I keep going like this, I'll need to replace all of my work clothes and that's a lot of money" Them: well yea it's what happes as you age blah blah You: You could be right, I might ha...

How to do that after years of learned helplessness is no easy task this is the central problem of the salaryman to ere transition imo. do you remember periods of your life when you were intensely engaged in activities that felt satisfying, enjoyable, and meaningful? What did that look like for you?

I use soap on my entire body without hair (I use a cheap shampoo on hair, otherwise it's dull and gets sticky, I think this is bc of the hard water in my area). I use just a normal drugstore soap brand - when I was in the states I used Ivory or Dial. I don't worry about cosmetic results because the ...

The perceived challenge I face is low amounts of affirmation & encouragement from my parents. Ooooh boy can write a novel here  I see you're trying to go down a road I tried to go down, unsuccessfully. A need of yours, in this case for positive recognition, esteem, and praise from parents,...

Imo fun is a legit goal. The point of ERE isn't that some goals are legit and some aren't, the point is to look at whether 1. you're meeting those goals in ways that doesn't shoot you in the foot when it comes to other goals, and 2. you're meeting those goals in a way that aligns with larger values ...

Advice for complete beginners in renovation/repairs?

As I've shared before, in November of last year I bought a fixer-upper apartment to fix up in order to develop skills. However, I am finding myself avoiding doing the work. After some introspection I realized the reason is really simple: it's out of my comfort zone and my knowledge is limited so it'...

An interesting side effect of living without a washing machine that I just discovered: I began to live without a washing machine this past November because the apartment I am fixing up doesn't have a functional kitchen or any other space where a washing machine can be hooked up even if I owned one (...

My second hand store is one of a couple of chains that buy donated clothes from western europe (Germans or Austrians donate clothes to charity, charity bales them up and resells them for cash). Our local chains restock completely once a month, and prices go down as the month progresses. Brand new it...

Not just thrifted clothes. One could reupholster old furniture with thrifted curtains, make house slippers from an old coat (someone on the forum made this!), make pillows and pillowcases, resize/adapt bedsheets that are of nice material but wrong size (e.g. convert a too-small duvet case into a fla...

Re: The Road Goes on Forever--Sometimes in Circles

Hm, very good point. We are used to thinking about ERE as a way to reduce our dependence on the salaried job by getting multiple sources of "yields," but maybe it's just as relevant to think about reducing our dependence on the formal economy for our drives for success, status, ambition, m...

Hm, I'll start with saying I think you need to worry less. Explanation: You seem like a thoughtful person. This post is evidence of that. Here is you pre-planning a situation and wanting to do the right thing and get it right. You're good people. You already have the important things down: do your c...

recommendation: combine lentil gruel and indian dish. lentils with a bit more spices over rice makes dal, which is delicious and a complete protein. Once you master the basic use of spices, you can use the same method on cooking on chick peas etc. I don't have too great an access to "exotic&quo...
