Re: Amateur Recommendations Log (what NOT to buy)
TSLA going up I really really want to sell 950c weeklies for earnings; this is your guys' timing signal  sharing so you can inverse me  Starlink on paper is a paradigm-shifting technology that will change the way the USA conducts war. I believe this. There was a video the other day of some...

Re: Singles interacting with couples
Most friendships revolve around particular activities. not necessarily, as a navel-gazey sort of introvert my friendships revolve more around conversations than around activities. E.g. we might go to the coffee shop together or we might go out for beers, but the point isn't the activity of being at...

Re: Singles interacting with couples
Hm I disagree that you can't ask to exclude a friend's partner. You absolutely can. It's fully legit to be better friends with one part of a couple. You should also be prepared that the person does not want to hang out with you solo and deal with it without throwing fits if that's the case. There ar...

Re: Singles interacting with couples
"Hey, I was wondering if you'd like to catch up over lunch on Tuesday? Great. Hey, this might be a bit awkward to bring up, but can it just be the two of us this Tuesday?" Depending on how you feel about things, you might include a "no homo" disclaimer, ridiculous as these are. s...

Re: Inflation, Interest Rates & Financial Represion
Is bitcoin a long vol asset? I guess it's a call option on the upside tail? It does go to zero on the lower tail as we saw in March; a sell-off in equities triggered a sell-off in btc and only a prayer and the exchanges slamming down voluntary breakers prevented it from actually crashing even furth...

Re: An ERE dating site
@Crusader: Fair enough. If you're also a scientist or a programmer, attend local meetups for programmers. You can use the dance people for practice. Even if they aren't suitable life partners, they would likely be suitable light conversation partners. You can make sure your social skills stay well-o...

Re: Amateur Recommendations Log (what NOT to buy)
I really want to buy tsla puts. The problem with that, though, is that with tsla, fund flows and options dynamics completely overwhelm any fundamentals when it comes to what the stock does. Also, space x is most certainly working with the military and i have a suspicion that EM is getting away with ...

Re: What would you do if you had $3,000,000?
I would use 15k to fix up my place and I would put the rest in a passive portfolio. I would probably go to scotland and share a house with my autistic friend who wants to move out but can't afford it. I would enjoy the coast and irn bru, and I would work on my English insults.

Re: Inflation, Interest Rates & Financial Represion
@giskard, luke gromen says you're fine
. He says he's holding miners, gold, btc, and equities.
the problem with this portfolio is the possibility that rates go up, which almost everyone agrees they're unlikely to except in the immediate short term.

Re: Inflation, Interest Rates & Financial Represion
@giskard, as for portfolio construction, chris cole + dragon makes a compelling case, also mike greene + straddles. you sound like a quantitatively solid guy, you could probably diy (some part of) these strategies. obv. tinker with the "bonds" category 'cause i think dragon suggests a quar...

Re: Inflation, Interest Rates & Financial Represion
deflationary or inflation environment in the near term yes >> to elaborate, in my opinion thinking about "inflationary or deflationary environment" is misguided, even if we were to just focus on the cpi. it is very clear certain categories of goods and services are experiencing strong inf...

Re: A comfortable bed
I am going to check out 2x4 furniture on the tube now. I started out thinking I would make a wood bedframe, but then wimped out and just flashed the plastic to amazon for a metal frame. a metal frame is practically immortal so this isn't necessarily a bad solution especially if you're established i...

Re: A comfortable bed
Have been considering exactly this, a 2 by 4 bed - there are multiple tutorials on youtube. i always get discouraged by how many tools seem to be required. It almost seems to me like to complete a project like that one must first furnish a workshop. Multiple clamps, multiple drill bits, multiple pla...

Hasn't happened with another person since, which is w...

Re: Portfolio evaluation and correcting for the wealth effect
The value of a 60% S&P500 and 40%10Yr Treasury portfolio currently is 0.6*15.81/38.43 + 0.4 * 1.119/3.84 = 36%. ouch i hate this situation. on the one hand, now is a terrible, horrible, bad, no good time to put cash into the market. on the other hand, it keeps going up and up and the amount of ...
