Re: The Zen of Ice Cold Showers

I listened to the podcast and have just finished reading his book. Well worth a read. Like Laura I had a hatred of cold showers for a long time. I live in a warm climate now and have managed to at least do cold showers in summer/autumn(fall). After reading the book I am interested to see how far I c...

Re: 2018 Goals/Resolutions Thread

(Sorry for the OT) @7W5 -- DS has CF so we've tried just about every method for keeping school germs at bay. My suggestions are ... * wear a mask (most effective) * wear glasses to remind yourself not to touch your eyes and avoid catching 'spray' from a sneeze * related ... use nasal gel to stop pe...

Re: Would You Comment on Using or Abusing Job Benefits?

@Riggerjack, after some consideration there is another side to this. What we are talking about is relationships ultimately. If society dictates the relationships that it considers functional, but requires in return something that is unbalanced, this must inevitably result in problem? So my question ...

Re: Would You Comment on Using or Abusing Job Benefits?

@Riggerjack, ah... learning resistant, if only it was that straight forward. All the things you have mentioned are true and of course at the same time incomplete. I do however appreciate you taking the time to put it all together in the blog for me though. It does help clarify my thinking around thi...

Re: Would You Comment on Using or Abusing Job Benefits?

@Riggerjack, you had me laughing. I can see the perspective you are looking at it from, for me, becoming that disengaged is a real struggle. They are however beating it into me. You are right, I am close to pulling the pin permanently anyway. Oddly enough that seems to make the problem worse. When y...

Re: Would You Comment on Using or Abusing Job Benefits?

@wood, thanks for the comment. I suspect you may be right. There is no problem in taking the leave, it is a ridiculously stressful situation at the moment that is near impossible to ignore, the problem as you pointed out is the repercussions.

Would You Comment on Using or Abusing Job Benefits?

The Situation: Crappy corporate job in overly bureaucratic state government organisation, but fairly well paid. A large number of toxic 'guardian' types actively rooting out odd balls, the usual corporate intimidation and bullying. Have got myself on the outer by questioning the status-quo and some ...

Re: Need help (forum spambot countermeasures)

Possible questions.

How about some maths questions in text? i.e. If you had to multiply two identical numbers to get sixty four, what is the square root of that multiplying number?

Re: Energy usage log

Avg usage over the year of ~180kWh/month. Everything is electric. Avg usage for a similar home in my area 243kWh/month. So while I am doing better than the average, I still think there is a ways to go. Approximate usage breakdown for a month Hot Water Cyl 70 Fridge 54 Elec Kettle 6 Washing Machine 1...
