Re: ERE Travel Thread

I have received a few suggestions I would suggest to check if they have music (usually at night on Friday/Saturday you’re fairly certain they do) The ones outside the center are the best apparently https://maps.app.goo.gl/q1pV8f21AgRvqEmt5?g_st=ic This one is close to the intestines place https://ma...

Re: ERE Travel Thread

No problem at all! If you know people in Belgrade, they will know kafanas where to bring you for sure, but if for some reason they don’t, I can ask.

Re: ERE Travel Thread

@Jean When you come out of a night of fraternizing, you definitely want to try a pljeskaviča sandwich with kajmak and ajvar. For fraternizing, my ideal spot in srbija is a kafana. Essentially a traditional restaurant where you eat and drink a lot for a long while, then when everybody is full and … u...

Re: guitar player's journal

We are hijacking guitarplayer’s journal, sorry. As you mentioned, my job pays significantly better (which is important because we are not at the level of assets that make me comfortable in pulling the plug now), but also provides other side benefits that we are not willing to give up yet. We have be...

Re: Chenda's sober ramblings.

Just wanted to report that I’m still going strong, drinking less and less. I’m still drinking almost every day, but I am now down to maybe 100ml of wine per dinner. I’ll try to keep this pace for another few months, and if it works I’ll try quitting completely when I start my new job. Thanks again c...

Re: European ERE meetup

Yes I will 100% look into it if the new job allows. I’ll start at the new company in May, probably moving to NL sometime around June, with the family joining in July. I will have to see what I need to plan when I start, but if I can I’ll be there for sure. Compared to what you are planning, mine wou...

For my defense, It takes probably more hours to get a hunting license in switzerland than a flying license in alaska.
LOL, so true also in Italy (plus we have the terrible bureaucracy).

Re: guitar player's journal

Well, in my case I know I would like teaching… because I’ve done it! Sure 90% of the kids don’t care, but my unusual mix of basic cynicism and positive attitude* makes it tolerable for me. There is nothing (I really mean: nothing) more fulfilling for me than seeing a kid learn new stuff and be happy...

I am, as usual, overwhelmed by the awesomeness of your updates. I don’t have as much time to spend on the forum as I would like so I regularly fall behind (plus, I’d love to follow at least 5x the journals I actually follow), so please follow Jacob’s advice and be vocal about projects. I will certai...

! As someone who often finds the water in lake Como in May WAY too cold for a swim, I admire your insan…ehm… toughness willing to swim near the arctic circle :) Jokes aside, like the backup idea of being a teacher, it’s always been one of my post-FIRE ideal paths as well. I liked the idea of being u...

I wonder if you actively seek out good opportunities or they are offered to you? *cut* For any EREites who are in the accumulation phase - just so you know! I usually get contacted by recruiters. This is the first job where I managed to get among the candidates thanks to a connection who referred m...

Re: Seppia's journal

Ok here we go, almost 8 months since my last update... Time really flies. After (only) a little over a year and a half in Miami, we will be relocating back to Europe, in/around Amsterdam. This happens a bit sooner than we would have ideally liked, but I got a job opportunity I really could not refus...

Re: Egg's journal

I think there is value in those days where one works long and hard and effective. At night, I am tired and sometime during the day I have made a mental note “need/want to spend more time with my wife and son tomorrow morning” But there is also a sense of “having done my duty” vs the employer. Fair o...

Re: Synthetic Chemical Fragrances

Almost all fragrances in 2024 are made from chemicals - nobody in the industry uses natural stuff, maybe in some remote areas.
It's all molecules re-created in a lab

Re: Share your recipes

Anyone make their own pasta? I've been experimenting, but no matter what I do it's mushy. I have to do gluten free pasta, so I use flour (GF 1-to-1), 2 eggs, and a little water. I might try adding a little corn flour. Even mushy, the pasta is great. Once I get the basic recipe down I'm going to try...

Re: Chenda's sober ramblings.

First chenda, wishing you and your loved ones all the best and a speedy recovery from whatever it is you have suffered.

Second, and far less important, I am managing to keep my alcohol consumption low which is great. Would love to try take this a step further sometime in the future.
