Re: A Jacob Mention

Can’t remember where I read this, but IIRC statistically the worst investors are lawyers and doctors.
Because they’re very smart people that can’t accept they aren’t educated about a subject.

Re: How will you evaluate this job offer

You can say
“Sorry I need confirmation of pay/hours or I’m not applying”

Regarding the “I may have to fire an employee” the solution is simple. Tell them if they want to fire someone they can do it now, if it has to be your decision you need to evaluate him/her for one year.

Re: A Jacob Mention

Sorry for the the tangent but I’d disagree.

Being an 85 and thinking you’re an 80 has more chance of success in anything in life (including understanding ere) than being a 150 and thinking you’re a 180.

The latter are the ones that always end up self destructing/shooting themselves in the foot.

Re: Semi-retirement locations?

If I could, I would live in Salt Lake City or Moab or some place in Utah/Colorado.
Utah is the most beautiful state in my opinion.
People who have an American passport have no idea how lucky they are :)

Now that I think of it, I should investigate ways of moving to Utah, I’m sure it’s doable

That's a very intricate backstory. Welcome to the forum and I look forward to reading your journal.

Re: Seppia's journal

Well, I haven't been updating in a while, it has been quite an eventful few months. Work could be a bit better but I could not have hoped for a better last three years on balance, so I cannot really complain. Life is good, as we're spoiled expats. We have a bigger apartment than normal (paid for by ...

Re: How will you evaluate this job offer

I may be seeing this through the lenses of a salaryman, but: What’s the downside of grabbing the money? You seem to have no respect and no attachment to the company, you have no current alternatives and they’re offering to double your salary + give you a better title (= better opportunities outside)...

Re: Investments Trade Log

Added a bit of MMM during the dip.
I’m not excited investing at these levels in general, but the “problem” with saving so much money is that past a certain cash % it has to go somewhere.

Re: Investments Trade Log

Don’t want to be rude or anything, but I would really be weary of any strategy that can fail on “no one could have predicted the sudden drop”. Because all sudden drops are unpredictable. In my experience, all of the retail investors that have been writing options have been wiped out sooner or later....

Re: Investments Trade Log

I have bought a bit of Clorox and Kimberly Clark, and a month or so ago some Reckitt.
I also have a relatively large position in British American Tobacco I'm not so proud of, but in general I like the idea of setting up inflation hedges (I own very little real estate IRL)

Re: Share your recipes

I made kakuni, which is a delicious Japanese dish. It's made of pork belly, and it's meant to be consumed in small quantities with rice or as part of a varied meal. Preparation is super easy but fairly long. Luckily kakuni freezes very well so make a large quantity once and you're good for a while. ...

Let’s be realistic here, nobody cares about what I think :)
I’d say pick questions for Jacob and sometimes you’ll be forced to hear my answer/thoughts as well

Thanks for the kind words.
I re listened to it and aside for the terrible volume difference (I am stupid: I spent 30 mins editing to adjust the volumes and add an intro and then just uploaded the unedited version by mistake) it wasn’t that bad.

Re: What's a good digital watch? (specifically for sailing)

As of today, I’d probably pick the 5610 over the 5600 https://www.amazon.com/Casio-G-Shock-GWM5610-1-Tough-Solar/dp/B007RWZHXO Main advantage is it’s solar powered, so you get the same “indestructible” feeling without the need to change the battery. Otherwise a still inexpensive step up is the pro t...

Re: Cannabis Microdosing

You may be drawing a conclusion that’s incorrect.
Some people are very curious by nature, and they find purpose in life in learning/exploring new things.
Doesn’t necessarily mean they’re unhappy with their life.

Re: Paying rent in bulk?

I’ve successfully done this in the past, but it carries some risk. If you don’t know the place/owner you may get a discount but then if there’s any issue you’re out the money, so you’re the weak party. If you know the place/owner and you’ve been paying on time all the time then he/she has no incenti...
