Re: A Jacob Mention

This wasn't a problem insofar the forum conversations historically spanned about WL4-7 ... but when the conversations begin to span WL3-9 it is. The likely solution would be some kind of spin-off, but I'm not sure what form that would/will/can ultimately take. The other solution is to "force&q...

Re: ACA and living overseas

Could you consider a travel insurance? These are usually fairly cheap. I just ran a simple simulation starting from here: https://www.forbes.com/advisor/travel-insurance/best-travel-insurance/ 40yo NY Resident Trip fully booked Traveling to Italy from Sept 1st to Dec 31st Covering only medical expen...

Re: Help Getting A Job Working Remotely

He said he “gets to six figures” (so I’m figuring that’s closer to 100k than 200k) and spends 2k per month So I calculated roughly 100k salary 40% tax 24k expenses Voilà The 2.5% is for someone in the USA who wants to be safe, and closer to a reasonable target in Europe at today’s valuations. In Ita...

Re: Help Getting A Job Working Remotely

But I haven't looked closely at South Korea which may work as well. South Korea is a nice country and I LOVE being there (especially Pusan) but extremely expat-unfriendly. - Most Koreans speak no English (even educated ones) - There’s very few immigrants and the few are either American military, ve...

Re: Help Getting A Job Working Remotely

What about an on premise job in a wealthy Asian city, like Hong Kong? Then you'd be close enough to travel nearby, while staying in a financially competitive labor market. Working an on premise job in HK seems like a terrible idea to me. You’d be competing with a lot of unskilled labor in a very li...

Re: Help Getting A Job Working Remotely

I would second what 2b1s is saying about the couple years off. Otherwise, you’re not very far from being completely free. You should be saving a minimum of 36k per year. That’s just 6 years away from a 2.5% SWR assuming zero returns on your current 490k. Or, if you could find a way to make 500 usd a...

Can’t remember where I read this, but IIRC statistically the worst investors are lawyers and doctors.
Because they’re very smart people that can’t accept they aren’t educated about a subject.

Re: How will you evaluate this job offer

You can say
“Sorry I need confirmation of pay/hours or I’m not applying”

Regarding the “I may have to fire an employee” the solution is simple. Tell them if they want to fire someone they can do it now, if it has to be your decision you need to evaluate him/her for one year.

Re: A Jacob Mention

Sorry for the the tangent but I’d disagree.

Being an 85 and thinking you’re an 80 has more chance of success in anything in life (including understanding ere) than being a 150 and thinking you’re a 180.

The latter are the ones that always end up self destructing/shooting themselves in the foot.

Re: Semi-retirement locations?

If I could, I would live in Salt Lake City or Moab or some place in Utah/Colorado.
Utah is the most beautiful state in my opinion.
People who have an American passport have no idea how lucky they are :)

Now that I think of it, I should investigate ways of moving to Utah, I’m sure it’s doable

Well, I haven't been updating in a while, it has been quite an eventful few months. Work could be a bit better but I could not have hoped for a better last three years on balance, so I cannot really complain. Life is good, as we're spoiled expats. We have a bigger apartment than normal (paid for by ...

Re: How will you evaluate this job offer

I may be seeing this through the lenses of a salaryman, but: What’s the downside of grabbing the money? You seem to have no respect and no attachment to the company, you have no current alternatives and they’re offering to double your salary + give you a better title (= better opportunities outside)...

Added a bit of MMM during the dip.
I’m not excited investing at these levels in general, but the “problem” with saving so much money is that past a certain cash % it has to go somewhere.

Re: Investments Trade Log

Don’t want to be rude or anything, but I would really be weary of any strategy that can fail on “no one could have predicted the sudden drop”. Because all sudden drops are unpredictable. In my experience, all of the retail investors that have been writing options have been wiped out sooner or later....
