Re: A good job

In social media, I just steal what is viral and repurpose it with my own opinions, ignoring the cringe

In less public facing pursuits I go more with my intuition and own judgements

Re: Strategies to stop wasting time

Lot of people want to do more, better use their time. But doing so can be hard, and often expectations are too high or not grounded in reality. This worked for me: Track time for each tasks for a period of 1-2 weeks. Track well-being over same time period. I found 4-6 hours of productivity, across a...

Re: Is programming still a valuable skill to learn?

@Viktor K; It's interesting how the management tactics you describe align with what I am currently learning in Project Management 699. The theory is that most humans, inclusive of skilled technicians, estimate the time needed to complete a task at 90% likelihood of success level... Valid, for sure....

Re: Is programming still a valuable skill to learn?

If your job gives you the kinds of problems that can be solved by ChatGPT, I can kinda see what you might hate it. That sounds even worse to me haha but I understand people enjoy different things. Latest quotables from corporate: Yes I've got COVID but I'm going to try and still make some meetings ...

Re: Meeting, Engaging and Seducing non-ERE Allies: Carrot Vectors

Has Tiktok marketing come up? I think for organic reach nothing can compare to it currently. Short form tips and tricks, and long-form deeper dives with a tried and true winning formula of:

Hook + Describe problem / relate / empathize + Quick win solution

could go a long way.

Re: COL comparision: eye surgery vs contact lenses vs eyeglasses

Also for contacts, I have a friend who wears contacts at night to sleep, then takes them off in the morning. This corrects their vision for the rest of the day. I hadn't heard of this technology before learning about it from her. I had a grandmother, prolific talented landscape painter, who went bli...

Re: Is programming still a valuable skill to learn?

I am a software engineer. Do not love it. Actually I pretty much hate it, and the field is so sedentary. And very capitalist hell which I also hate. But I feel a little better about it twice a month. Haven't written code by hand in a while, just telling ChatGPT (i.e. correcting it and clarifying) ho...

Most of these courses are project-based and 100% free for HTML/CSS: https://www.freecodecamp.org/learn/2022/responsive-web-design/ Front-end (React, CSS libraries) also has 5 projects on the end, free: https://www.freecodecamp.org/learn/front-end-development-libraries/ I used those in 2017/2018 to m...

Now bragging about view counts  Seriously, go use ChatGPT. I think you'll find it better yet. And this forum will weep and never recover from your women and immigrant rants. ChatGPT to your first post: Congratulations on receiving your first paycheck! It's great that you're considering differen...

Re: fulltime life travelling have the same issue as fulltime stationary life

Not why but what I enjoy about travel is experiencing a new community, new conveniences, and new experiences. The novelty is nice. Community is also sometimes a pull for me to stay in a place or to return to another. Community is more of a security and also an attachment. So enjoyment and security a...

Re: For coders, are these 100% online, accredited programs any good?

@7wannabe5 project management, product management, and SCRUM master are other roles to look at too. All involve working with technical and non-technical staff @white belt I don't think it is very common, especially for currently employed applicants. Last thing an applicant wants is someone calling t...

Re: For coders, are these 100% online, accredited programs any good?

Teamtreehouse + creative resume writing / wording? That gets you future job opps with very little opportunity cost. You get in the door because of resume, and can nail the interview because of team treehouse background. For current job, if they have agile or standup, maybe you can sit in on those if...

Re: For coders, are these 100% online, accredited programs any good?

I looked at the course offering for the CU Boulder one. I don’t think they’re very applicable to majority of software engineer jobs. Having been on the interviewer side, I paid no mind to CS degrees and would not give an applicant my vote based on them having one or not. As in it didn’t carry weight...

Re: For coders, are these 100% online, accredited programs any good?

Pretty pointless at this point. What a course will do is give you a line on your resume. Who wants to know what coursework you did? What comes up in interviews are practical certificates and experience e.g. cloud (AWS, Azure), which you can learn and apply online. Where does the CS degree requiremen...

Re: Fox's Journey: And Onto the Sunlight!

I don’t believe anything a corporation says unless it’s “your position has been eliminated”. The company is for profits not the employee wellbeing or future. But maybe. Assuming you expressed interest in the dev/engineer role, it would seem strange to hire you without an intent to move you to engine...

Re: Fox's Journey: And Onto the Sunlight!

I’d either: A) try hard, meticulously record any tasks you do that add value to the company, ignore mental health and burnout. Use that in quarterly or monthly reviews to negotiate higher salary. Push/hope that they’re actually going to switch you to a coding role (sus). Continue applying and use an...

It is now wired up to some plugins like Instacart and Wolfram (computations?). Their Reddit seems to think it is a pretty big deal, but I was wondering what you here thought about this new development. Plan a meal and have it added to InstaCart ready for checkout, was one feature. That doesn't seem ...
