Re: Suomalaisen Päiväkirja

It is much easier to be happy, or at least not unhappy, with life's twists, when a human has the confidence that is hard earned by successfully navigating challenge and overcoming adversity. Each person may have different ideas of what a challenge is/was. Overcoming medical difficultly(beating cance...

Re: Suomalaisen Päiväkirja

Therein lies contentment. Square-pegging round holes for too long (whether due to poor self-awareness, cultural or other exogenous pressures, or lack of opportunity) generally leads to discontent and frustration, but the only way to "find the match and pursue it accordingly" is to trial-a...

US Apartment sizes are shrinking

https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/americas-average-apartment-size-plunges-charts-show This is good news as far as I am concerned. Both from a personal standpoint (more options for small places to live) and a general environmental societal standpoint. It's up there with packaged junk food shrinkage. :D

Re: Insulin Resistance

One thing people tend to overlook is about 70% of animal protein (little less for eggs) and 80% of plant protein ingested is converted to glucose and will result in elevated post-meal insulin, albeit not as spiky as a piece of pie after a feast of pasta and bread. Though a technically true statemen...

Re: Insulin Resistance

I see. I could probably do a 14-16 hour non eating period every day. Have you used apple cider vinegar Dave ? Apparently it can help counteract insulin spikes after higher GI foods. Some people just have weird metabolic effects. If your A1c is normal, and your blood glucose returns to normal quickl...

It'll be great to have my free friend back! Maybe try to plan some mutual adventures again? Funny how your wife liked this stuff for only a few years. That's how I always feel about a career. learn it, master it, get paid a bunch... quit(usually two years too late). I can see why serial entrepreneur...

You're kicking ass B&G! Dudette, I wish I could send come of my positive life vibes your way. Shit has been really good for me for awhile now, it's almost cliche in the sense that I don't appreciate it the way I should. I think the whole thing is kinda random. Your day will probably come, in the...

Re: Social Skills + Social Capital Challenge & Resource Collection Thread

Inquisitive interruption, timed properly, is really just a form of active listening. Ex, "I went to my sisters house last Sunday." slight pause. "wait, is this your younger sister you told be about earlier or your older sister?" My experience is that even an introvert (if they ar...

Re: 4th, 5th, 6th Person Perspective

@Chenda How does one define the top vs the bottom in the trickle of ideas? Wealth is relatively easily defined, so is height, etc. If ideas trickle down, then how can the "top" be determined in advance of the trickle? (was Galileo or the Church on top for the trickle down?) or is it the tr...

and so the inspiration trickled down to the point where most people buy a Spark or some such. While the Roadster was unaffordable (wah wah) to the masses, it still greatly influenced the direction of the car buying habits of the masses, so that EVs are now a thing commercially despite the first ele...

We're talking a sufficiently high skill level to be "hired from abroad" and it typically comes with the stipulation that the position can not be filled by a similarly qualified domestic applicant. Typically, this means phds/expert-specialists, intra-company transfers, and vocations that h...

Re: Late 20's: It's time to make a choice! Help with Real Estate and well-being

Instead of looking to split one or two SFR with your family members, go all out. Pull all the capital together you can safely afford to and buy a large multi-unit property. 12+ units? Don't be afraid of the leverage as long as you are cash-flow positive enough (with vacancies, cap ex, etc) to live. ...

Re: Late 20's: It's time to make a choice! Help with Real Estate and well-being

One of the worst decisions of my life was buying real estate as a primary residence too young. It tied me down and made me miserable. The biggest missed opportunity of my life was leveraging the biggest apartment complex the bank would lend for and quitting my job to manage and maintain. The skills ...

Covid was a proof that ease of movement can easily be restricted, It was severely limited, but certain economies are so dependent on tourism that they became "sanctuary areas" for the nomads. And the situation was highly reflected in the cost. IOW nomadic lifestyles, though more limited, ...

If you are planning to stay in one country long term it pays to look into residency opportunities. Many of the "developing" countries provide options for residency if you bring enough money into the country. Often times this can be proof of monthly income rather than a large deposit. US sp...

Thank you for this thread. Living beyond one's healthspan is the largest contributor to a bad death. Also consider living beyond loved ones healthspan, like below. In some cases the healthspan of your entire generation. When cultutral changes makes it feel like you live in a different world, this is...

Some people seem to have this innate desire to seek out personal challenges. Whether end goal oriented, values based, or just because. There are also a huge group of people(my ex included here), who love challenges, but prefer to have them handed on a platter. Through employment, a values leader, or...

Re: Decentralizing FI for strategic reasons?

More breathing room, more options to consider, paradox of choice begins to rear it's ugly head.

My game is to find something that's "good enough", play it until it's no longer good enough, then find or invent the next game. Anecdotally this happens every 5-10 years.
