Re: Dealing with abuse at work

"Dude! I prefer my own food, why do you care what I eat?!" When he responds with I don't or I'm kidding, respond with an annoyed eye roll and ask him why he keeps bringing it up, or that it's a goods thing he doesn't do stand-up, because it's not funny anymore. Edit: and for clarity that's not abuse...

Fee only financial planner?

You could pick your own clients, ie the investment naive millionaire next door types you like. You could also chose to only manage enough to earn a living part-time. Less time demands and on your own schedule, win-win-win-win?

I read through your journal Thanks, its appreciated. Also big a thanks for the detailed reply in you journal! It was reassuring to see the dynamics worked well for you and your wife. One of my fears in semi-ERE is that my GF will think I'm going to be a stay at home house husband, which is not goin...

It's not only van life that lets you enjoy the best seasons in the best areas. Pairing down possessions and furniture enough to fit into an adventure vehicle, plus maybe small trailer, and you can pretty much move at will with very little cost (both time and money). Experience has taught me shorter ...

Sounds like things are going very well! Testing the waters by living off investment income is a great idea. I think any mental tricks to make oneself more comfortable with potential withdrawals is great, it seems to be a huge obstacle for most people. I'm considering reading some books for philanthr...

Excellent thoughts! There will be times in the river of life where this contentment you describe becomes very self evident. A person will be happy... except for a few minor things. Our thought processes will begin to focus on those things, and we will be tempted to make changes to fulfill our magica...

This would probably work best if you structured it in line with "networking groups". Back in my sales days, strong networking groups were sought after. Each person in the group offered a particular service (ie Ins, Banking, Real Estate, etc), and only one of each type was allowed in the group. It wa...

+1 to what Gilberto de Piento wrote. You are the one that has to be happy and comfortable with your plans. I was just offer my 2-cents as a, somewhat, objective observer of the situation. No matter what happens, I think having the time off this summer will give you a chance to clear your mind. After...

I guess I didn't realize you were so dead set on returning after the European sabbatical. That being the case, I very much agree with @trailblazer. I think if you don't deal with your employment situation beforehand, it'll be a big thorn in your side while you are supposed to be relaxing and definit...

Upward waves are the best! I look forward to the summertime urban permaculture pictures (hint hint). I hope everything goes well for your mom, it's tough to get into the assisted living conversation, so her recovery will be in your best interest as well. I'm pretty impressed you managed to do more t...

@Generation-X I have always been under the impression ERISA's which were rolled into other tax deferred accounts (IRA), remain under the same protections as if they were still ERISA, if no other funds were added to the IRA post roll-over. Meaning that only accounts originally opened as IRA or Roth f...

I think it depends on if you're truly planning to return to work. Personally, I'd rather have the down time AFTER being on an extended trip. 7K is peanuts to you at this point, who cares. Maybe it's because I've made the mental breakthrough that I'm not going back to full time work, but I have a pre...

@frihet I glanced through and I think I've read those before. Good examples. Anyone interested should also consider looking at how universities handle endowments. I had a business undergrad degree with a fair amount of economic knowledge to begin with. So if someone is starting from scratch it proba...

@2B1S You're up too early if on this forum at the same time as a night nurse! I use none of those. I created my own portfolio, although I use assets from both. I think the key is simply learning why different asset classes and subclasses tend to behave the way they do. Then designing a portfolio bas...

This is the first time I've commented in one of these threads because it may seem like it's actually going somewhere. Many good pieces of advice, but I'm going to add something super important. When trying to get to know people generally, eccentric, women, or whoever; being a good listener is of the...

Yeah, I'm not sure I could. I mean, I see where I could immediately get from 1.5K to about 1K per month. However, that would mean an increase in hassle and time factor I'm just not willing to experience when working FT. Plus I'd lose on of my favorite hobbies. I suppose I could get another $100 a mo...
