Re: Making my own rehab shoe insole

1)humans walk around all their life in soft shoes without exposing their foot muscles to any tension 2)foot muscles atrophy and arch sinks down, looking like flat foot 3)humans use more padding and softness if this is the case, the remedy is walking around barefoot or in no-support shoes. vibram fiv...

Re: How much do you value location independence?

My new at home gig is probably looking to pay less than 1/10th of my income before quitting. [..] Not sure if the ego can handle it. brute knows the feeling. brute's ego had a certain number in mind, and anything substantially below that number, brute's ego simply couldn't handle. brute was "worth ...

Re: Making my own rehab shoe insole

has Stahlmann tried walking barefoot for a few months straight, or using barefoot-style shoes? there are legitimate cases of humans requiring insoles but they're rare. most humans simply have atrophied foot muscles from lack of use due to life long use of soft shoes.

Re: Fox's Journey: Out of the Burrow

brute recommends not being too hard on TopHatFox' human family. families are made of humans, and humans are notoriously flawed. humaning is hard, especially parenting. brute has never known any humans that parented right. it's just a scale of how much they fucked up their human kids. not being beate...

Re: How much do you value location independence?

brute thinks that even in remote-easy industries where all humans could technically work over the internet, there are a lot of trust and control issues. humans simply enjoy having other humans warm seats in offices, and seeing human faces, even if that is expensive and inefficient and prohibits remo...

Re: How much do you value location independence?

in brute's experience, the low cost of living areas are also low-income areas, or areas from which it's hard to work remotely. might not always be true, but it's mostly been true for brute. brute's known many a "digital nomad" type, and he knows exactly 3 that have ever made remotely what would be c...

Re: Meditation and Metacognition

brute did mindfulness meditation for a while, which must be up there in the pantheon of incredibly eye-roll-inducing named concepts. he found it definitely did something, but he got the same thing from other things as well - working out hard, getting hit (boxing), motorcycling. anything that forces ...

brute has seen both 4 day work weeks and 3 months unpaid vacation per year. they were both special arrangements, but not unreasonably difficult to achieve.

nothing fancy. brute basically bought a few things here and there, but doesn't do much trading or reallocating. probably doesn't even qualify as an allocation.
