Re: Location vs Money
Follow your heart. I'd go to Asia, as this can be your only chance. You will learn A LOT about world and yourself, and have tons of great memories, even if you won't like it as much as you think. Don't forget you still have many decades left to make more money, so don't worry about it too much now. ...

Re: Portfolio Charts
Sorry, not intraday. The current portfolio charts setup is inadequate and misleading. It shows historic returns for ONLY Dec 31 - Dec 31 periods, essentially n=1. The returns and losses (and comparative returns an losses) would be totally different looking at Jan 10 - Jan 10 for example, and likely...

Re: Buying Physical Gold
Someone carrying $10K worth of cash or gold bullion would get stopped immediately by TSA but someone wearing $10K in simple gold jewelry wouldn't arouse any suspicion. $10K worth of gold bullion is just a few coins, just put them into your wallet or pocket along with other coins. In the worst case ...

If we're one day able to process brute force encryption cracking algorithms in "quantum computers", or some other unforeseen technology, would that not cause the value of bit coin to crash? It would be easier and more profitable to break into the bank or other places. There is much more m...

All this calculators consider perfect world, where ERE person is absolutely passive, watching disappearing lifetime savings and having not a single dollar of income during 30/40/60 years. Just build a strong portfolio and stick to it, learn useful skills and relax, don't bother about every single ca...

Re: Permanent Portfolio in this environment?
Maybe it would be instructive to measure investment performance in units of gold? The idea is to measure it using invariant units (is gold being accumulated over time?) to avoid being tricked by fluctuations in the money supply. This is super interesting topic. Just take a look: https://i2.wp.com/g...

- being the only child, there is a possibility that I will inherit some assets in next few decades, as my parents have good financial habits Never count on inheritance. At best, you'll likely be 60-70 years old when you collect it unless your parents are significantly older than average or unhealth...

Hi guys, thanks for many replies above :D , but I really need your help now. Recently I was thinking a lot about my future withdrawal rate, and I'm getting more and more confident with 4% WR, than planned 3%. Why I believe it will be great option for me? - 3% WR is guaranteed extra time at work to a...

Get on ebay, search for "dell/ibm desktop", get the most reasonable one for up to 50$. That's probably the easiest way.

Re: stayhigh's journal
Quick update. I feel pretty confident about my finances, so I dropped budgeting as numbers are constant month by month. It saves me a lot of effort and to be honest, I don't feel that bad when I have to spend some extra money from time to time. There is no reason to stress about every single penny. ...

Re: How to Make 100k /Yr?
I wouldn't be so worried about a specific dollar amount. I'd say find something you don't hate doing most of the time, that aligns with your interests and values and leaves enough time for outside interests. Manage your lifestyle so that it doesn't cost much to live... and the rest is gravy. That's...

Re: Permanent Portfolio UK / International version
Fail safe investing, Harry Browne 19. If you object to investing in government securities, use long-term corporate bonds with AAA credit ratings that have no call provisions. (A call provision allows the company to pay off the bond early, which reduces the potential for price rises that you want in ...

I'm not sure PP/GB is for you if you want to time the market! I only want to try time it once, during accumulation phase. When my net worth will be good enough to retire, I will stick to the allocations. At the moment gold and cash are cheap, stock and bonds are expensive. Even if I fail, in worst ...

Re: Permanent Portfolio UK / International version
I just look at 50+ years perspective. I'm not worried about gold, one of few assets you can really own. I'm also not worried about stocks, maybe except some current valuations. Cash is cheap. I'm just not so happy about expensive gov bonds, and I don't like buying expensive stuff, so I try to build ...

Re: Permenant Portfolio UK / International version
@stayhigh, you need to read the book. It explains extensively why you should stick with government bonds over corporate issued bonds. The main draw, among others is that a government with its own central bank is highly unlikely (when compared to a corp) to default on a bond as it can just print mon...

Re: The continued viability of the 4% rule in the US in the 21st century
I think people trust too much in past performance of US in last century. But they forget why last century was so great. Market long term performance is based on economy. And economy is made by people, for people. Take a look at demography, if you want to have an idea about the future. Now try to bui...
