Re: Nomadic-ERE Year 5 - Wanderlust Prevails

No alarm required for us, I typically wake up around 5-6 AM and am in bed before 9 PM. Being active during the days makes going to bed fairly early easy.....especially in places in the world closer to the equator where the days are relatively stable in length. It does get a bit more difficult and we...

Re: Western Red Cedar's Journal

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the downsides of this lifestyle. I agree with many of the points, though some of these issues can be mitigated with some experience and planning :) One thought that came to mind as I finished reading your update....you went through TWO enormous transitions simu...

Re: Nomadic-ERE Year 5 - Wanderlust Prevails

Greetings from Italy! We arrived a couple of days ago, after a quick shower/nap near the airport in Rome we took the train down to Gaeta where we've been for the past two days. It's a magical seaside village of ~20k people that has fairly prominent (~1,500M) mountains seemingly rising from the sea. ...

Re: The Education of Axel Heyst

Super cool that you got to meet Pete, thank you for sharing your experiences. I've been intrigued by the Longmont HQ for quite some time, on paper it makes a lot of sense. The sheer number of people in the FIRE community that Pete's presence in Longmont drew from all over the USA is quite impressive...

Re: Where do you get music?

DW and I pay for two annual subscriptions between the two of us, one of which is Spotify Premium. Worth every penny as I listen to a lot of music and it's been great for discovery of new artists based on stuff I like.

Full transparency, I meant 7kg carry on and still have a small back pack for my laptop, water bottle and some snacks (personal item).

Re: Portable washing experiments

As a full time nomad traveling the world with 7kg of luggage, I do quite a bit of sink/shower laundry. Here in SE Asia where it's hot, preferred method is to strip down in the shower after an activity while the clothes are already sweaty and wet and stomp on them while doing normal shower business, ...

Re: Nomadic-ERE Year 5 - Wanderlust Prevails

@WRC, it's actually growing on me the past few days. Maybe it was just such a shock due to how/where we spent the last couple of months? We've gotten into a nice routine here and now that I found a really gnarly dungeon to lift at my mental health has improved too. I have a recommendation on what pa...

Re: Nomadic-ERE Year 5 - Wanderlust Prevails

Musings Greetings friends. This time from Ubud, Bali in Indonesia. We're staying in a guesthouse here in relative luxury for $30/night in a room with aircon, a bug net, balcony, access to a small dipping pool and the most delicious breakfast we've had in a while included in the price. The owner coo...

Re: My side of the mountain

@WRC @2b1s -- would love to. So much good hiking in the region outside of the parks as well. @2b1s if the timing works you guys can crash at my place (I have a 18 month old baby so be warned!) and then we can venture out. My only vague hope/plan is "Autum Japan Vibrations" but I'm confide...

You have the internets permission......live your best life.....even if that means sitting in your parents basement for the next two decades asking the same questions over and over again. Do they even have basements in Italy?

Reading your last update gives me the warm and fuzzies. Glad that my ramblings over the years have helped folks in some way. Now, onto the discussion around diet, training, and hoopla. I 90% agree with you, and I've both walked the walk (going from morbidly obese to competing at a high level in drug...

Re: Nomadic-ERE Year 5 - Wanderlust Prevails

Just search "cheap housing/apartments for rent in ______" on Facebook (fill in blank with city or region of interest) and list some criteria like dates, budget etc in your "looking for" posts and you will get plenty of solicitations. I would look at places in person before commit...

Re: Nomadic-ERE Year 5 - Wanderlust Prevails

Today we went to a meetup through an online nomad group DW and I have been part of for a year, we met a couple who is doing the dance between Chiang Mai and central Vietnam. It's a bit of a hassle but costs are super low if you commit to longer term rentals. They are renting a studio apartment that'...

Re: Nomadic-ERE Year 5 - Wanderlust Prevails

I really enjoyed getting to know you over the course of ten days rather than the course of a few hours. The feeling is mutual, what a blast! It's really cool to hang and get to know people that you've been following online for a while. Especially since I've been trying to push you to take the plung...
