Re: Semi-ERE Year 3 - Wanderlust Prevails

@mountainFrugal, that's pretty awesome how things worked out for you. Once things get back to a more "normal" way of life, the job will entail being on-site with clients in a specific geography. This specific geography is a very large metro area in the Northeast. Our options within 1-2 hou...

Re: Frugal chicos journal - ERE in Spain

Congrats on the successful move! I do have a selfish question, what did you choose for a mattress? DW and I are in an extremely similar situation in that we will likely have to furnish an apartment completely from scratch, and rather quickly, in a HCOL area in the coming few months. Wishing you cont...

Re: The Education of Axel Heyst

Big congrats is in order. It's been pretty awesome following your journey since the start of your journal here. There are many of us who don't have the balls to do what you have done. Keep setting the bar high (or low) for the rest of us to see that life can be exactly what we never planned it to, y...

Re: Semi-ERE Year 3 - Wanderlust Prevails

Thanks to social capital and FU$, I will be leaving my current gig for a different one in the same industry. Better conditions, higher income potential, and an environment that should be much more conducive to growth were all reasons for the switch. It does anchor us to a relatively HCOL area, but o...

Re: Do you maintain a resume?

If you're really concerned fudging a few start and leaving dates would probably be ok (a 'typo') Or just say you were helping to nurse sick puppies or something. In the USA one of the biggest reasons they do background checks is to verify past employment dates. This is surely something that would i...

Re: Do you maintain a resume?

I do maintain a resume. Took 13 months off work from late 2019 - late 2020 and had no trouble explaining the gap to several potential employers. I did end up biting me in the ass because I took a position without enough leverage to negotiate more favorable compensation terms, but now 6 months in I c...

Hi Zanka! Glad you're dealing with the bumps on life journey relatively well. As far as the SWR, the 4% rule is not worse case by any means. Not sure if you've included this excellent series on the topic in your research https://earlyretirementnow.com/safe-withdrawal-rate-series/ but I've found it's...

Oh, also, I bought one-way tickets to Lisbon for Feb next year for $150 a pop. The approximate plan is to slow travel round the world, taking as long as we feel like (a year?).
I know someone who did that ;)

1) It's 2021, the world is in the state it's currently in. JLF + Wife suddenly find themselves without their house or possessions which tie them to current geographical location. If you could put down roots again anywhere in the world, where would it be? 2) You could share a meal/walk/evening with a...

That's rolling, and it's going to go up significantly in the next 9 months as our spending stabilizes......predict somewhere around 4.5% 2020 was an extremely unusual spending year (unsustainably low) for our household. My individual TTM WR = 1.54%, but that's also going to stabilize around 3.5% by ...

Re: Semi-ERE Year 3 - Wanderlust Prevails

March was an active month, with 8 weightlifting sessions, 201 miles walked, and 140 miles biked. Work was manageable, but far from enjoyable. I am planning how to best exit. Spending was high, but 50% was accommodation related. Life was interesting and had a lot of variety sprinkled in. Much discuss...
