Re: 2Birds1Stones' 12.5 month hustle to freedom!

Sold my Motorcycle today.

$4,000 added to the portfolio, since I wasn't counting my bike in the assets, it's 1% increase to the numbers =P

With my luck the stock market will tank next week and I will lose that $4k on paper.

Woohoo! Fat tire biking is amazing, and a lot of fun in the summer too. Glad you're thinking about it now, the best time to get anything you need for winter playtime is in the summer too.

Re: Giskard's Journal - slingin code to reach FI

I'm a bit confused.

You hated Minnesota winter and couldn't wait to move, so you bought a condo and plan to stay for a few more years?

Have you thought about how to enjoy next winter, now that you're staying?

Dang, I'm not trying to "shame" by any means. Just genuine curiosity from someone who is on a similar path and values your contributions here. I like your plan. And woah, I'm impressed by that spending over the past 12 months. It's where I hope to be in a years time. Do you count Roth IRA as part of...

Re: Gus' road to retirement

I plan on working from a beach hut in Bali/Laos at some point.

You can get something to cover the screen from above so it doesn't get hit with direct sunlight. It also helps to have a laptop that doesn't have a glossy screen. I work outside in my hammock in the sun pretty regularly.

Due to work related shit, I am now targeting June 1, 2019 for my sabbatical or mini/semi retirement.

My boss is a bipolar prick. This is all assuming I last that long.....

Re: Randy's Journal

You shouldn't have to rebalance in the accumulation phase, just shift your asset allocation through new investments.

If your target is 75% stocks and 25% bonds, and stocks take a dip, buy 100% stocks till you're back to your desired AA.

Re: RV Recommendations

I think you are assuming that there will be no costs associated with the RV on top of the purchase price, that would not exist in your current rental situation. A used RV is bound to cost money to maintain, service, transaction costs, etc. Just something else to think about.

Re: 2Birds1Stones' 17 month hustle to freedom!

My SO has started reading ERE blog posts, I think I'm falling in love all over again =D We are 6 weeks into tracking out combined spending, and we should eek out another sub $3k month in May. This is pretty damn significant. It's still laughable compared to what Jacob and his wife spend, but a big i...

Our timeline, FI, ERE, points are almost exactly the same. I'm targeting April 1 2020, and will likely move back to Poland (where my family is originally from). It's awesome to catch up on your journal and commiserate as we get antsy to pull the plug =)

Can you get a Planet Fitness membership for showers/bathroom use? $10/month and they seem to be all over the country. I can't really comment on living and working out of one, but I've also done extensive research for the purpose of slow traveling around North America (a la C40). I'm leaning more tow...

Glad you made it out of that alive. I recently found your blog(s) and I have to say, Alaska is now one of my top places to visit for an extended period of time. I'm very appreciative of your journal. It's awesome to hear that your first 2 phases of an ideal life went well and phase 3 is off to a good start. So, do you still see yourself giving this up after another 4-6 months and repeating phase 1-2 again? Seems like this approach will never have you tappin...

As a pole who was born in NY but spend ~3 months a year over there for almost 18 years I can really appreciate your description. It's very very accurate. When I was a kid, I spent most of my time in Rzeszow in the southeastern region. I remember my cousins telling me that there were all of like 5 fa...

Re: Incompatibility between drinking and ERE

@Seppia I drink mostly IPA's, stouts, and other various craft beers. When on sale here in HCOL area of NY a 12 pack of good beer is about $14-18, and a 6 pack is usually ~$10-12. There is also 9% sales tax and a $.05 deposit per bottle. At a bar a decent pint of beer is normally $6-9, and usually 50...

Re: Incompatibility between drinking and ERE

Hmmm, I definitely spend a solid $100-200/month on happy hours and good booze for home. 0 regrets and still maintain a 75-80% savings rate. It's all about priorities. Too much of my social circle enjoys hanging out at a nice bar sipping a $3 craft beer during happy hour. We also frequent the local b...
