Re: 58yo perma-traveler, retired at 38yo

I am a few years behind shemp on this. Retired in 2012 and have not performed any work/side hustle etc or earned a penny from the same since then. Mostly dividends from index funds and some occasional capital rebalancing. Psychologically I have seen a significant difference between someone who say g...

Re: Do you personally drink coffee and why/why not?

nmteaco carries an assam that will curdle your tongue. i think it’s one of their cheapest actually. they also sell tea bags for you to fill. for hard dicks... i don’t know if craigslist does that anymore. didn’t they ban those ads? ps-i hope you didn’t come here from arizona bringing GERMS. are you...

Re: Do you personally drink coffee and why/why not?

@c40 - What I mean is that while it is hard to get decent robust tea in a store, it is all too easy to find tens of types of tea in the tea aisle, each sounding more exotic than the other.

Analogy would be like being unable to find a hearty coffee roast/blend but lots of coffee type drinks.

Re: Do you personally drink coffee and why/why not?

I guess to me tea is something that princes and paupers alike can drink and bond over. Not something to be fetishised (as it mostly seems to be in the US from my observation...same goes for wine). Drinking tea is never about the tea but rather taking a break for conversation and beholding the simpl...

Google Pixel 3a XL ( AT&T prepaid) Mainly purchased for kick ass camera and it certainly was an upgrade from the Lumia 640. It has totally reignited my interest in photography and for that I am grateful as photography meshes well with a travel lifestyle. While good picture taking is mostly about dev...

allow me to respectfully call bullshit on that this is my local provider: https://www.nmteaco.com/ yes, they ship free Ok...I am visiting Santa Fe right now so probably can check them out while here. Though my experience has been that in the US you can find 72 billion varieties of exotic tea and al...

Re: How does your personal care regimen conform to or deviate from what is considered normal for your age and gender?

I am very meticulous about all aspects of my hygiene (daily shower 1-2 times, brushing with soft brush 2x including back of tongue etc, flossing 1-2x, use deodorant, cologne etc. ) and and having a sensitive nose I really can't much stand people who smell bad. Used to work with a guy who smelt so ba...

Re: Do you personally drink coffee and why/why not?

No coffee, thank you. Relaxants better for me than stimulants. Civilized people drink tea😁 Speaking of tea, Lipton teabags are absolute crap. Hard to find goodbtea in the US. Barry's and Builders Tea if I can find them. Failing which PG Tips (UK version...the US version has less tea leaf per bag and...

Ha...I guess I should have come back and closed the loop (or maybe I did in another thread... don't remember). I did manage to get my name on the layoff list and at the end of the year I got my wish...had to work with my then boss on this and walk the fine line between becoming layoff material vs be...

Thank you very much for your response. I did not know about the $2500/yr Ukraine residency option (haven't done much research on Ukraine yet) but once I get traveling overseas (hopefully in the near future) I would like to spend some time in Kyiv and Lviv...have heard good things about both places. ...

@shemp: I've enjoyed your posts and am a few years behind you. I retired at 39 and in the 8th year of having left Corp America and am 100% nomadic. Last year spent 8 months in Europe and had to come back due to Covid but would have liked to continue much longer. Currently biding time in the US waiti...

Re: COVID-19: Unwinding the Lockdown and Long Term Epidemic

No kidding...maybe the way to avoid it is to re-elect the incumbent 😁 Only semi joking here. After seeing the nonsense and mayhem unleashed in the wake of the Minneapolis death, unless something changes by November, I think I might see myself standing in line at the polling stations voting for the i...

Re: Pandemic, Protests/Riots and the Stock Market

From my limited experience, I have never been able to make money by guessing what the market will do or trying to find an explanation for its behavior. Only made money by focusing on my own valuation criteria and then rebalancing if needed. Mostly it has been to do nothing.

This scene from the movie Outbreak I think will explain why so many nursing home and apartment type dwellers got the virus. https://youtu.be/QN-9uPFi1Bs Also makes me think that the hepa filters in airplanes must mostly be working well otherwise flight attendants should have been dropping like flies...

The Coronavirus scare in the news was a good investment opportunity.

Also travel in the US (with common sense precautions) was great as most National Forest trails etc were mostly empty and quiet.

12% cash, 88% public equity on just examining my account. Don't own a house.

Bought significant amounts of VTI a little
before and near recent bottom..that portion of portfolio is up 34%.
