replacing car speakers

Has anyone replaced the speakers in your car?

I got a price from professionals and was kind of shocked it was $500 to replace one speaker. No way I am paying that.

How challenging is it to do yourself?

Re: COVID topic vol 2

Doing lockdowns while having no or lackluster border controls is like trying to empty a flooding bath with a tea spoon while leaving the taps on.

The border controls are really what seems most important. Shame that hasnt been focused on more in some places.

Re: COVID topic vol 2

My god I just found out that Canada only just started a mandatory quarantine for people flying into the country less than a week ago. And only for 3 days. No wonder Canada is so saturated with virus. NZ has had a shut off border except NZ citizens and mandatory minimum 14 day quarantine pretty much ...

OP exactly as I suspected. The drive of increased anti social behaviour in central Wellington and Auckland is due to the large post-COVID increase in social housing in the centre of both cities. https://www.msn.com/en-nz/news/national/not-pleasant-wellington-cbd-marred-by-disorder-and-crime-as-emerg...

Re: Singles interacting with couples

Im speaking from a gay male perspective so that most likely has its own cultural twist. I am having this issue both with straight and gay friends however. Most often lately it is a gay male who keeps inviting his partner to anything when we meet. Im just talking for drinks or lunch or to the beach. ...

Singles interacting with couples

Whats the expected etiquette for singles interacting with couples in terms of inviting your friend's partner? Sometimes you want to hang out with your friend and not with their partner. Often I find, as a single person, hanging out with a couple can be quite awkward and not really that fun. Unless I...

Re: Thoughts on share-houses?

Just read this from today that there are views that Sydney rents are stablising such that rent drops have hit their bottom. https://www.miragenews.com/inner-sydney-rental-vacancies-stabilising-at-end-of-a-turbulent-year. Mind you, depends on how the latest little wave of COVID goes in Aussie. I have...

Re: Thoughts on share-houses?

@OP - what are the property prices doing in central Sydney if rents are dropping then? Looks like rents are dropping heaps from what I just looked at.

Maybe I should head over there lol. I have always quite liked Sydney. I find the heat hard to contend with is an issue though.

Re: Thoughts on share-houses?

It's a bit of an interesting situation in Sydney... like nothing I've ever seen pretty much in my lifetime. Yes, rents have come down a lot. A lot of places that were very high have come down a lot, especially in the suburbs you mention. However, at the same time (and I know this can be somewhat su...

Re: Thoughts on share-houses?

Do you get enough applicants for you to have much choice? How long does it take you to find someone? Aren't you paying quite a lot of rent during that initial waiting period? Does this happen fairly infrequently (e.g. once every year or 2 years) so that in total you're not spending much time paying...

Re: Thoughts on share-houses?

I just turned 39 and have been living in share houses since I was 31. I had a brief gap of living on my own from 29 to 31. Before that it was always share houses as well. In NZ, where its fucking ridiculous expensive, living in a share house is the only option if you are single and want to achieve f...

Re: COVID topic vol 2

In NZ the fact that they are a remote island might have more to do with it, possibly, than any trust in the govt. ' That definitely has played part of it. But not all of it. COVID hit at peak NZ tourism season and had spread to every single region of the country before it was subsequently stamped o...

Re: COVID topic vol 2

But you cannot say it and then point to New Zealand or China and say, "They did it over there, we can do it here!". Things are different over here. People are different. We are operating in the world as it is, not as we want it to be. I dont think we can actually say people did it in Chin...

Ok so now we have news from China saying the actual figures were ten times what was reported. This after Russia admitted death toll was 3 times what was reported. https://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/covid-19-coronavirus-chinese-government-says-wuhan-outbreak-10-times-larger-than-reported/NZL7WXFFJFNNGI...

Re: COVID topic vol 2

I was waiting for stuff like this. Russia underreporting covid and admits actual deaths are about 3 times whats reported. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-55474028 This will be the case for a significant number of countries across the world. I suspect actual deaths so far are more in the vicini...

Re: COVID topic vol 2

The deaths/serious cases occur mainly in older people and in Yemen older people are a tiny part of the population, only 2.6% of people there are over 65 there, so it makes sense that that have very few deaths. In contrast in the US over 65s are 17% of the population - 5 times more My point was more...

Re: COVID topic vol 2

@Life of FI - I guess compared to the 1940s and previiously things arent so bad. But they seem pretty bad for my lifetime scale. I am certain that the numbers of deaths and disease actually going on will be well in excess of what is reported in real time. That is always what happens in every pandemi...

Re: COVID topic vol 2

The only places in the world that have the virus under control are New Zealand and Tawian. Everywhere else it seems out of control. Scary. Korea has a huge outbreak and its hospital system cannot handle it. People are dying before they get to see a doctor. USA gets worse every day. Britain and South...
