Re: Sleeping problems

@UKthekids - I still have the sleepig problems and nothing has fixed it. You are quite right about going to bed earlier. I should probably foys on this more. And this is probably the best remedy for me. It does however often mean that I will just wake up earlier and still have the same problem. But ...

What are OP shops?
Must be a New Zealand term. Op Shops means opportunity shops. Which are second hand stores. I think they are called thrift stores in the USA maybe.

Re: What are other people's reactions to your living frugally?

Another thing I notice that some people do when they notice that you are into frugality is that they talk a lot about places to get special deals on things and talk about all the deals they have gotten and about op shopping and invite you to go with them etc. But these always seem to be unfrugal peo...

First rule of ERE Club... You DO NOT talk about ERE Club.
You dont always need to talk about it for people to pick it up though. People still identify it from your habits.

Re: What are other people's reactions to your living frugally?

Its a mixed bag. Most reactions arent positive. it depends how much people know about me. Most people have no idea so they think nothing. Those who have an idea how much I earn and who earn less than me but spend a lot more are kind of resentful. Most of those who earn as much or more than me and ha...

Re: COVID-19

Its seeming like COVID19 is back under control in NZ again. There has still been 0 community transmission since April. There is 18 active cases but those are all returning NZers who are in quarantine. The cock up with the two women returning from UK were allowed out on compassionate grounds before t...

Re: COVID-19

It's worth considering that different countries which have different genetic makeup may have different levels of immunity to the virus. Maybe they are less likely to pass it on once they have it, or are less likely to shed it asymptomatically, or they will have less severe symptoms after contractin...

My god another new disease in China. Again. How is anyone supposed to trust claims "not to worry". Is this getting reported in the news elsewhere? https://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/news/a ... d=12344704

Re: COVID-19

Things are not looking as rosey downunder as they once were. We are having a steady stream of new virus in NZ every day. They are all so far cases at the border for people in quarantine. All NZers returning from overseas. As the cases grow overseas more people are bringing it here when they come bac...

I wonder though if you'll get a new wave of billionaire refugees looking for a safe haven. It might be a narrow window of opportunity to buy cheaply.
I would not be surprised. Thank god foreign buyers are banned now. Im sure people will still try and flout the rules anyway

Re: COVID19 and boycotting Chinese made

People must really dislike stereotype of American MAGA hat guy with pickup truck so much that they start to speak in glowing terms of organ-harvesting ethnically homogeneous totalitarian dictatorship. I think Trump has done damage to USA's brand. Once Trump is out I can see USA very much returning ...

Re: COVID + Residential Real Estate?

Property prices in NZ expected to fall 12% this year. Its not a lot compared to how ridiculously expensive and unaffordable it is anyway but its a good start. Hopefully it drops by another 12% again next year. https://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/news/article.cfm?c_id=3&objectid=12341783&fbclid=IwAR0...

Re: COVID19 and boycotting Chinese made

The suggestion is that an absence of US leadership globally has left a vacuum which China is more than happy to fill. This is true. USA is too distracted with its own internal issues. It needs to get things together. Im not sure how well China's bid for leadership will go though, given that China h...

Re: COVID-19: Unwinding the Lockdown and Long Term Epidemic

But in my own personal opinion, I don't think the current movement will last. I don't see how a movement predicated on hating White people or using race as a means of rating someone's virtue will succeed when 60% of the population is white (70% if you include white Hispanics). The numbers are not o...

NZ GDP results for first quarter out. God ridiculously slow. Its the lowest GDP in 29 years. 1.6% drop. The decline is expected to be much bigger for quarter 2.

So... on the economic front Sweden seems to be winning.

Re: COVID-19

The govt has stuffed up border control in NZ. We are no longer virus free. Two women who returned from the UK were allowed to leave quarantine on compassionate grounds and not propely checked first. More than a week later they tested positive for the virus. I wonder how many people they have infecte...

Re: COVID-19

2 new cases in NZ after weeks of nothing. When I first saw I was thinking WTF is going on! Then found out that they are both returning NZers from the UK who are stuck in quarantine after arriving at the border. Thank goodness. So its nothing to do with any virus here. They will be in quarantine unti...

Re: Psychological challenge of sticking with a volatile portfolio

I thnik you absolutely must stop looking at it at all. I have been through this experience recently as well and just completely stopped checking. And do not do any net worth tallys at all for at least 6 months to maybe a year. Staring at it is a little bit like staring at a huge plate full of cakes ...

Re: COVID-19: Unwinding the Lockdown and Long Term Epidemic

Following 23 consecutive days of no new cases the lockdown is well un-wound in NZ. Things have gone from one extreme to the other. From the most locked down country in the world to the least locked down. NZ hosted both of the worlds most attended events over the weekend, a rugby game in Auckland wit...
