Re: Journal of vraxxos

August 2017 I'm baccccckkkk! Things have been going a little slower on the savings front than I would have liked, but overall I am pretty happy with where I am at the moment from a financial standpoint. https://poorbobby.files.wordpress.com/2017/09/networth.png?w=620 Some updates on my personal sit...

Re: Journal of vraxxos

November 2016 Looks like I was right to be cautious over the increases in my net worth in the past few months. For the first time since I started keeping track, my net worth actually decline in absolute Sterling terms, despite me maintaining contributions. Unfortunately, the strengthening of Sterli...

October 2016 Another great month, investing has really paid off for me with my portfolio up by nearly 15% in just 6 months (buying British bank stocks after they collapsed after Brexit has driven most of this gain). https://poorbobby.files.wordpress.com/2016/10/capture2.png https://poorbobby.files....

Re: Cyclical investing

Cyclical investing is not so much investing, more speculating. However, that is not to say that it can't be intelligent speculation. For example, I look at car production in the US where production volumes look to me like they are going towards the peak of the cycle. Do I really want to be invested ...

Re: The most hated asset class - Jesse Felder

I read Jesse's article, I don't really agree with it. Firstly, the performance of cash as an asset class is well documented. It is guaranteed to lose purchasing power thanks to inflation. To be "invested" in it can only be a sign of desperation, or else an attempt to market time. Neither s...

If inflation is 1% and the money is compounding at 3%, then I think you'd be best leaving it there, especially if there's penalties.

September 2016 Month went as expected, broke the £80k barrier for net-worth, likely to finish the year at £90k at least. https://poorbobby.files.wordpress.com/2016/10/capture.png?w=620 https://poorbobby.files.wordpress.com/2016/10/capture1.png?w=620 Also, no journal is complete without an investmen...

Re: Buying small cap stocks to avoid the index buy/selloff

Thanks for the input. I live in Europe and my portfolio has a few international companies, but maybe I should look to the states to diversify? I am extremely nervous about investing in the American market right now. Dollar is expensive Stock market is even higher than most other world markets Risin...

Google Sheets Question

I was reading Singvestors blog, I see he has this useful chart where he is grouping dividend income received by month and year. I am just wondering, how is this done?

Re: Journal of vraxxos

August 2016 Disappointing month. A lot of personal expenses crammed into a short space of time meant a smaller than expected increase in my net worth. Investments performed great, but I am getting a little nervous at the exuberance of the market. https://poorbobby.files.wordpress.com/2016/09/captur...

Re: Investments Trade Log

I believe in this overinflated asset world, Europe is one of the best "simple" investments to make. CAPE is average and there's a lot of negative sentiment, which is usually a good time to buy. Europe has been relevant on the world scene for a few thousand years, I'm not sure it's going t...

Going from $84k of investments to $126k is a 50% gain, that is great achievement you've made in just 8 months.

@Gilberto de Piento I am not criticising you, but I wouldn't even start there. It's too long and too US centric. Try this book instead, says the same thing, but in less pages - https://nebula.wsimg.com/a29db28416c040149b49bb43782dac9d?AccessKeyId=386E8A3834E68565118B&disposition=0&alloworigi...

Re: Has anyone been through the process of writing a prenup or wishing they had?

You're all a cynical bunch. I am a married man with kids and at no point have I even considered a pre-nup. If I ever divorce, then she half have 1/2 my assets with no quibble from me. I am ok with this because we have children, and I know whether she loves me or not, the children always come first f...

Re: P/E ratios and an over-valued stock market: Retirement Bubble?

Brooklyn Investor has a series of articles about the current state of the market. I recommend you read all three recent articles. http://brooklyninvestor.blogspot.com/ As a whole, the S&P index is being driven by a few companies with nosebleed valuations. The majority of companies though are rea...

Re: Journal of vraxxos

I did some projections the other day. At the current rate I am building my net worth, I estimate I can retire in about 10 years. It's great to have a goal to move towards to, at the same time, it's a little frustrating that the goal is so far away!

Re: Journal of vraxxos

I actually haven't even discussed it with my wife. Financially speaking, our lives are separate. She earns a little of her own money, keeps the child benefit and I would supplement her with a small amount of money. That's enough to pay for the children, food shop, her car and her only expenses (she ...
