Re: Garden Log

Have you ever tried drying cherry tomatoes? One bush is putting out way more than I can eat. But it's nice trying.

Re: Moving

I don't want to move now. Unless it's to Costa Rica.... I've lived here in the Oregon coast range since 1991 and have watched my forest grow from a newly planted clear cut to something that is ready for a commercial thinning when I can retire and get to it. My family moved a lot when I was a kid but...

The price for vasectomies must have really gone up, mine was under $250. Very good investment.

Re: How much time does dishwasher save you?

Jobs like washing dishes and sweeping the floor aren't boring to me. Jobs where I have to pay attention to subjects that don't interest me are boring, like my paying job.

Re: Are your flood plans adequate?

Was there a movie made about the 1953 flood? I remember seeing one about a flood in the Netherlands when I was a little kid but can't remember if it was a movie, documentary, nor where I saw it.

Re: Do you listen to podcasts? If so, who do you listen to and why

No. I already typed my rant for the day about it in a different post, but, for me, listening to a person talk is a very poor investment of time if the goal is to learn something. For entertainment they're fine sometimes.

Re: Rapidly Changing Automotive Technology

And a bit of history, this is nothing new, a hundred years ago, Chrysler was using reverse threading on all their parts to cut down on aftermarket parts sales. I thought that was just their lug nuts. Man I wasted a lot of time and energy trying to get a tire off. Good thing I didn't have a breaker ...

Re: Citi Bike for NYC Commute?

My folding bike only cost 120 bucks used, so cheaper than City Bike. But I'm embarrassed I confused the transit price per month with the City bike price per year, sorry about that. I would love to try out a Bike Friday but I won't pay that much for one when I already have a Fargo and don't need a fo...

Re: How long and strict is your undereating phase?

I'm kind of interested in the topic, but I just won't listen to podcasts. Listening to somebody talk is way too slow a method of learning something. Text or you're not trying to communicate with me. Yes I can see I'm getting left behind but can't make myself care.

Re: ffj's journal II Rope Rescue Technician

Interesting thread. Will any of these knots prove useful for tying down objects to secure them, like the bow and stern lines of my kayak going to parts of my pickup? Those ropes do get some wind whip. I could see where the bow line would be good for attaching the rope to the kayak, (or is there a be...

Re: Citi Bike for NYC Commute?

Have you ever ridden one of their bike? I agree the storage thing would be simpler. It seems crazy that the bike program costs more than a metro pass. I would check availability of bikes for both directions of your commute, during busy time. It would suck to head out in the morning to work to find t...

I'm on a ridge at about 600 feet. The Willamette Valley would be an inland sea before it got up to me. But yeah, earthquake. Or forest fire.

I can't deny a liking for violence, but I believe it's wrong to indulge most of the time. Almost all of the time. Just religion holding me back. Besides, I might not win.

Re: Political correctness run amok

I watched the video. I would enjoy finding somebody to whip me into shape.... I have to try those sit-ups she was doing on the heavy bag. The flying side kick at the end was performed wrong. I didn't understand the video: why did she leave him, then come back? And what was the sumo fight all about.

Re: Eclipse viewing in Casper, WY

I just saw it here in Albany, OR. Less than two minutes of totality, I think. My iPhone took a lousy pic, not worth saving. I'm glad I didn't waste my time trying to get pictures. I liked it but I don't know that I would chase around the world to see more of them. I just stared at it.
