I am retired. I wouldn't move away from my friends. Sadly I live about 1.5 hours from any of them, but in 3 different directions. So it's even. I wish they would move closer to me.

Re: Early Retired: The First Month
Congratulations! When I was reading your first entry above I was thinking "I thought he was already retired!" So you did manage it a year younger than me. 56 is just my minimum retirement age so it's only early compared to most federal employees I know who spend too much money to do it.

Yay! It's good to hear from you, I was worried. I thought you were still down there east of Eugene where one of the big fires was. I'm doing adequately as usual. Sold some timber to pay for a new road to Weyerhauser property so I can have logs hauled out that way rather than over my driveway bridge....

Sclass, you can find more family. And it sounds like you should. They won't be related to you physically but they will be your true family. I'm sorry for what happened to you.

I haven't really given this much thought though dementia does run in my family. I think it's interesting that most of the new friends I've made in the past couple of years are Millennials. I don't seem to meet people my own age.

Re: Only Rice and Beans Response from friend on Spending Goal
I don't drive a hundred miles per day for my commute anymore. But that was pretty stupid anyway. I'm pretty sure that my Costco 5% cash back rewards for buying gas won't pay for my Costco membership anymore. But they used to.
