Re: What does DW mean?

Also, ETA does *not* mean Estimated Time of Arrival on forums  It means "Edited to Add".

Re: A Jacob Mention

I think this has been discussed before, and in my perception your and Jacob's definition of his intended audience differ quite a lot. If I am not mistaken, Jacob (and others here) is willing to help people who help themselves. Imagine two scenarios: 1. If someone says: "hey, I read about concep...

Re: Systems!- Level 6 towards 7

Satisficing/optimizing is a stage. Trying to "play" the full range of development at a given stage is counterproductive. Maybe compare to adult development models: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGItuEai8vo& [Watching from 3:15 to 16:40 will describe the intent and purpose of such mo...

Re: A Jacob Mention

It seems like typical clickbait with lots of links to other articles to suck you in and/or boost google score. I noticed he didn't actually dare to talk smack about Jacob directly, while he did pile upon the other bloggers.

I wonder what a WL1 blog post about ERE would look like

Re: Portfolio Charts

It looks great Tyler, thanks! I have two suggestions: Add the Fund Finder to the existing portfolio as the sheet. That way it's easy for people to quickly look at how they can actually implement a specific portfolio. E.g. at https://portfoliocharts.com/portfolio/permanent-portfolio/ add the Fund Fin...

Re: Incassaforte encore AMA interview

While I'm anxiously waiting for the next episode of America's Next Renaissance Man to drop, I want to float an idea here! I really liked the interview Seppia had with Jacob, since it went beyond the simple intro ERE style and it was a fun well flowing conversation. I thought that I would also enjoy ...

Re: A Journey of Mindfulness--the Remaking of Life in Midstream.

IlliniDave, one thing that you didn't mention as a 'negative' is the fact that you'd have 24 hours less free time per week! Maybe even more, since you'd also need some time to unwind. Furthermore being a SME also sounds energy intensive, so your real free hours could also be somewhat lower quality. ...

Re: The Education of Axel Heyst

Great AxelHeyst, congratulations on breaking free! I've found my self going back and forth on the merits of thinking and engaging with the ERE mindset vs living more serendipitously (kinda like Taoism). I feel like you have done a lot (and I mean *a lot*) of mental heavy lifting already wrestling wi...

Re: Learn to be easy to live with?

It might also be interesting to think about what a bad roommate would be like. Then invert that behavior. One counter intuitive thing is to be clear and firm (but not rude) in communicating your own expectations and boundaries. If you don't tell people what you want or expect, you cannot be surprise...

Re: Systems!- Level 6 towards 7

We can describe two questions: 1) How can I sell ERE to someone else? 2) Given that I am sold on ERE, how can I achieve it/level up? Regarding 1): @AxelHeyst, if I understand you correctly, I think you argue that other people cannot be sold on ERE. You either already grok it, and the book/this forum...

Welcome Melo! What kind of things do you like? I recently got inspired by https://alastairhumphreys.com/microadventures-3/ and https://beaumiles.com/, maybe this is something for you as well? And have you read the book by Jacob already? ERE might also give you some insight in how you can combine FIR...

Re: ERE Mastermind Group

All right, last Sunday it was my turn to sit in the "hot seat" of the mastermind group (MMG). A write-up of my experiences! Background I started the Mastermind group with the "high level goal" of moving from LeanFire (which I already kinda am) to ERE (which I definitely am not). ...

Re: Systems!- Level 6 towards 7

What this does show: It conveys the increasing degree of resilience. You can snip several flows (lines) in WL7 w/o rendering it unfunctional. WL5 is more fragile. There's a difference in kind between the stages and it's clear what it is. This makes the validity of levels easier to understand and ho...

Re: Systems!- Level 6 towards 7

@BookLoverL: nice, I dig those examples. I especially recognize me-of-a-few-years-ago in de WL5 social description. A penny saved is a penny earned, and with assumed 5% return, it's even multiple pennies through a lifetime! So why go have one drink with friends ever instead of always insisting to ca...

Re: Systems!- Level 6 towards 7

I tried to make some web of goals for a WL5/6/7 based on Jacob's description. Due to space limitations it's very tiny, but I tried to capture the following: WL 5 has one main source/stock for producing yields. WL 6 has multiple stocks that produce yields, but no synergies yet (superfluous stuff is j...

Excellent. I have some questions for both of you: What is your favorite dish you can make (and do you have a recipe?) Would you rather fight 1 horse-sized duck or 100 duck-size horses? What is something you want to achieve this year? How did you meet your partner? What is the quality your partner li...
