Re: On-the-go Meal Prep Kit for maximizing grocery stores as an alternative to fastfood/restaurants?

If you are driving, if make sure you always have some raisins, nuts and peanutbutter in your car (and a spork). Easy snacks! If you buy a loaf of bread before you drive, you're all set. The PB jar can be reused as a container as @AH mentioned. I had some of the best meals of my life eating cold soak...

Re: mountainFrugal Journal

Thank you for that essay MF! I've always felt a little bit 'artsy' when coding certain things in college and can still feel mighty satisfied when I think of a creative (albeit slightly hacky) solution for a work programming problem. I'm an artist y'all! Also, DW was away on a business trip when we h...

Re: NYT article on fatFIRE

Interesting article, fair description of the different subfields of FIRE. Only thing that peeves me whenever Jacob is interviewed is that is that they never talk about the big idea of homeotelicity and/or spending your $$$ more efficiently. This is part of what makes ERE different from FIRE imo. I w...

Re: Quail Haven, an ERE Mountain Enclave

I really want to encourage people to take AxelHeyst up on this amazing offer! He was gracious enough to host me September 2023 (which I chronicled in part here ). It was a terrific experience! We had a lot of fun. While at Quail Haven, a typical day would look like this: Wake up, watch the sunrise W...

Re: Ego's Journal

I've recently got 600 euro back by directly going to the website. You should have gotten a flyer with information about your rights. You can of course use a third party, but all I had to do was fill out an online form on the airline's website and wait for a bit.

Re: ERE Fest 2023: Ft Dirtbag

I see twenty pass by as an ideal number. Our countryside place could be a really good fit for a future European ERE gettogether next summer. If my wife doesn't veto the idea, that is :-) That sounds amazing loutfard! I'll be in touch with you to discuss this, because it might be a great option. And...

Re: ERE Fest 2023: Ft Dirtbag

So 13 of the 19 had personal ties to each other or at least their group before they attended ERE Fest. Interesting. I would bet that made them much more comfortable to commit knowing they at least knew others beforehand and wouldn't be the odd man out. Maybe some of you guys that attended can chime...

Re: ERE Fest 2023: Ft Dirtbag

Poles are okay I had them in carry on numerous times. I am talking the flexible some-sort-of-fibre with a rubber string pulled through, unsure about the old school aluminium ones but think they’re not used for 2 person tents anyway. I wish this happened in Europe by the way, I would totally plan an...

Re: ERE Fest 2023: Ft Dirtbag

EREFest has concluded. A(t least a) three day weekend where many forumites gathered to experience desert living, workshops and share the ERE lifestyle. In this post I will do a write-up of how the weekend was structured. I encourage attendees (like they already did) to share their experiences as wel...

Sorry to hear this, Veronica! Do you get any severance? And I don't quite get why they mention your eligibility for rehire when there is a skill mismatch, am I missing something?

What line of work were you in?

Stories of the Desert Kings - Homecoming King

Below I'll describe my experiences so far. It has been a terrific experience all around! In a later post, I'll write more about my interactions with AH and what things I thought about while I was here. Getting there: dealing diligently with delays The first week at AH's place has been amazing! It st...

Stories of the Desert Kings

Serenity. It is what I am. And it is where I am. All my live I have lived in cities. I have lived apartments, I have lived in houses. I have lived in the suburbs and I have lived downtown. But this month, I live like a Desert King. During my career, I have always had ample time saved away. Not just ...

Re: What would you do if you got zeroed out tomorrow?

A very interesting question @AH! I'll write my own plan later, but first some abstract thoughts/observations. This thought exercise can be done for two reasons: 1. To stress test the tensegrity/tensile strength of your Web of Goals (WoG). How robust is your lifestyle design? How many hits can your W...

Re: Quadalupe's Journey and Journal

Hi Rube, thanks for checking in! Now that spring is in full swing all is well in house, gardens and love. I haven't planted much in the garden this season, but I am enjoying the spontaneous flowers that have sprung up in the past few months. FIRE wise, I've hit the OG ERE mark, so JLF_ERE achieved! ...

Hoi Aardappel en welkom! Sounds like you are in a good spot right now and are thinking about the right things. A couple of questions: Will you be staying at your family's place for a long time? Do you already have a backup plan of cheap housing if you feel the urge to move at some point? What does y...
