Re: Assessing Federal agents deployed to Portland

This is not a straightforward situation. I don't know if Trump's actions are objectively more power-mongery or unlawful than other Presidents. I do know they give me much concern. I'm also heavily influenced by Greer, who predicted Trump's election and made a convincing case for why it was inevitabl...

Re: Assessing Federal agents deployed to Portland

Agreed that Portland does not feel safe to me.

Pre-protests. I would not walk around in the city at night by myself unless I had no other option. Even daytime f we lt sketchy in many places.

And I hitchhiked alone through Morocco at 18.

Re: Assessing Federal agents deployed to Portland

I went to the protests in Portland. Before Feds, vibe was mostly Pink Floyd Party in the Park. Pot smoking, dancing, music, occasional chanting and shaking of fence. Sometimes protesters or cops or both would escalate around the fence. Cops pretty much did not want to engage with the crowd by the ti...

Re: reepicheep's journal

You know, we caaaaaan meet up again. I gave a tour to a random stranger who stopped in the middle of the road last week who had questions. We both wore masks, I opened the windows and the door of the house. This thing is going to go for years. I'm going to take precautions, but I'm not going to stop...

@saving-10-years, perhaps a new thread? I'm also into fiber arts. Card weaving is my latest trick.

@EnigmaT120, that would also have been unfortunate. Wire seems ok, though. More testing needed before we close up the walls.

@Stahlmann, you care if I sleep with other people?

Marrying me also comes with health insurance and pension insurance.

Re: Kids are time drainers

I live in an intentional community. There are ~8-12 children there (I dunno exactly), from 1 year to adolescent. The pre-teens and toddlers are mostly self-supervised and wander around in a pack. I dont think formalized school is happening. Occasionally an adult leads a structured activity. I rarely...

There are 173 pages to this topic, so forgive me if this has been discussed before, but:

Any decent research on acyclovir?

How similar is it to remdesivir as a treatment?

I do not know anything about chemistry, if you start posting diagrams you're going to lose me fast.

Re: C40's Journal

I tell people about "this person on a forum I read who is in Vietnam and living it up." A little envious. Considering renewing my passport, which I foolishly let expire this previous December. Haven't done much Asian travel, but a friend of mine is headed that way (like, picking up and moving their ...

Re: Sanity check my plumbing plan?

Thank you to everyone who responded. I can't answer all these questions, but I've shown this thread to the person working with me--handyman I've hired for four years on a huge variety of projects, including other electrical and plumbing work--and he's read all your responses and has looked at the li...

Re: AE's Journal Round 4

This was a theme in my life for so long. Are you seeing a good therapist? I think you would benefit hugely from it. I also do not want to work full time. I work more than I have to, strictly speaking, but a little bit of work seems good for me and more than a little bit of working for other people ...

Re: Sanity check my plumbing plan?

Ok, so. I want to stick a hot water heater on the storage loft above my wood stove. The wood stove unit I have is designed to heat water -- it comes with a water boiler (the Nectre 350W, for those curious). I'm supposed to open-vent whatever water heater I use with this stove. I'll probably cut a ho...
