Re: Investments Trade Log

@etyu lol I couldn't stand it any longer.. timing the market and sold off almost all my remaining USA equity ETFs (and many international equities) yesterday. I just don't see how this "second" wave in the USA combined with a huge election year is great news for stocks? Only decent explana...

Re: COVID-19

Some auto insurance policies (Allstate, USAA, ...) giving refunds.. waiting to see what mine will be (I already pay very little..). I always thought they were batshit crazy for letting the subways run. Those seem as bad as preschools and airplanes for disease transmission. COVID spreads by breathing...

I've always figured I would use any physical precious metals as raw materials for smithing, crafting. I haven't looked into what the tax implications of one day selling those goods would be..

Re: COVID-19

If another stimulus bill (or whatever you want to call it) needs to happen, how about we do a short "seeking rent for next X months is illegal" instead of the 880 page bill that passed (in the USA) last time?

Re: Anyone prepping for corona?

May check out a restaurant supply store (that's usually closed to the public) today or tomorrow. It's been difficult getting my dad to adopt different habits.. he's (always) well-stocked (lives alone but has two refrigerators and a chest freezer) but he still goes to the grocery store every few days...

Re: COVID-19

I assume once there's a vaccine they'll want everyone to take it, but if people feel they've been misled multiple times during the pandemic they might be hesitant to believe claims that a vaccine is safe and effective. I mean.. yeah. I've never had a flu vaccine and I would be hesitant to get a ron...

Not looking forward to having to let it age ;_; Guess I never updated :P Can't find any pictures.. but after the fermentation slowed down to a crawl, I bottled the gallon of mead into a few bottles (already opened bottles w/ screw caps) of various sizes as well as 3 or 4 little 2oz bottles and put ...

Re: Sewing simple cotton masks

Nice work everyone! Has anyone seen or made a mouth(or nose)-only mask? The channel/orifice not being filtered could be shut: if you have a mouth-only mask, you should use it along w/ a nose clamp (or just stuff some material up your nose). Maybe a design like this would improve effectiveness of hom...

@thrifty++, okay, I could see a bit of that. Really funny to me, though, because every time I've read your post I replied to, my own post after I wrote it, your reply, and my post here, I've been touching my face bc I don't have a mask on.

Re: COVID-19

The mask encourages you to touch your face more. I've heard this.. but after wearing a couple different types of mask in different scenarios, it's clear that wearing any style mask reduces face touching drastically for me. How would wearing a mask increase the wearer's face touching? Is it presumed...

Re: Is doing your own car mechanics "normal"?

2. Check and consider replacing the coolant and brake fluid. Takes five minutes to check. Again YouTube to change. Same risks, make sure to check your fluid levels after your done to make sure it is sealed. Flushing brakes needs to be done without introducing air into your lines. Be very vigilant y...

Re: COVIDs effect on production/manufacturing

I actually filled up my van's tank (~26 gal) at the beginning of some of the lockdowns in the US at $2.56/gal. Price is currently at $2.39/gal and dropping every day (the commodity futures indicate a much lower price). I probably won't need to fill up again until, at the earliest, May, probably long...

Bought to cover my short TSLA yesterday. Disappointed I didn't buy ZM when I first added it to my watchlist a couple weeks ago.. (I already own WORK). This past week or so I've sold off my TIPS and bought a bit of commodities (base metals and energy stuff). Have started buying some crypto-currencies...

Re: Bitcoin on the rise

It pays to have some out-of-the-money buy orders on the exchanges, until it doesn't! There's a history of liquidity crashes/rises and it looked like it happened again (touched $4k, back to $5.6k within an hour). 24/7 trading will do that, especially combined with less liquid trade pairs (like crypto...

Re: Quitting Alcohol Pros and Cons

Guess I'll just throw my hat in and say alcohol (for me) is great! I don't see many drawbacks to drinking, "a lot" or a little. I pretty much decide up front if I want to not drink, have just a single drink, or to hit and ride the buzz/intox. Even the potential bad/wasted day after is more...
