that explanation does make sense, thanks Gilberto.

Understood on the details, I totally get you on that too. Last thing we want to do here is make ourselves targets for scammers and sponges. Glad you found a new ride!

Aug '21 Update

Hey everyone, two years has gone by so very fast. Here's what's been happening with me. First, I survived COVID :D I had a minor neck injury just before SHTF (shit hit the fan) so I'd resolved to take about 2 weeks off from the gym and rolling. That ended up being about 4 weeks and my main sparring ...

Some nice looking charts there.
+1 Can you share how you did the 'rolling 12 months expense and withdrawal rates forecast' report specifically? How did you extrapolate the trend lines for the SWR?

Re: Gilberto de Piento's Journal

"Unicorn" is just shorthand for something that is really difficult, probably impossible to find. Unicorn is right! I'd add to your list the condition that it doesn't have some inherent engineering flaw in the drivetrain or chassis that is a ticking time-bomb or something like that. Very t...

Re: FI in 10 years

The granola, Mexican and Noodles I think are as good as eating out at a restaurant but the cost is a pittance. More details on the recipes if you don't mind. I usually do steel cut oatmeal with some fruit for breakfast, but I'm not opposed to mixing it up and my version of tacos has some roasted sw...

The good: - Net worth (not just FIRE assets as shown in the chart below) is now over $0.6 million (note the use of millions - someone recommended that earlier in this journal and I like it  ) Hey Gilberto, fantastic to see the progress you've made, kudos! Yo SteveO whassuup man! You and your son been rolling through the pandemic together more and more? That's a good situation there, having a younger belt but fit and strong to roll w/ and go through moves together. Just need to get your daughter into it maybe? Been watching a lot of Tom's videos at th...

Re: Feb '17 Update

Just sayin', dude! Why you gotta be bringing up old stuff, 2birds? I think there's two things I'm going to use as excuses and Smashter is right about the first one, because when I said that, I wasn't having so much fun at work like I am now. Also, I felt like 40 was super-old and way far off...

Aug '19 Update

Hey all! Wanted to check in with my ERE compadres and see what's cracking. Can't believe it's been so long since I checked in here but it's nice to see familiar people from way back when I was a more frequent reader. I'll be turning 40 this year and I'm still working. While I do consider myself FI, ...

My condolences on your loss. Can't even imagine what you've gone through and so sad to hear.

Good call on getting back in the gym. Are you still rolling?

Re: Gilberto de Piento's Journal

wow, check out that advertising income!!! nice high savings rate too, excellent. I hear you about the DIY time suck. That's the big part about it that nobody really talks about. Especially when you're tackling an unfamiliar project, you've got to research it, go slower than usual, and there's often ...

Dec '18 Update

Had a wild idea to check this site and see how everybody is doing and figured I should do my part and provide a bit of an update, albeit a brief one. I missed the Chicago get together again. Maybe I'll make one of these sometime and get introduced to people IRL. Still working after the promotion ear...

Hey dude! Are there really no changes happening? Your journal is inspiring and therefore I'm looking forward to an update. How are you? Still tracking expenses per day? Yo, Wolf, how you doing? You anywhere near Nurburg? My sim-driving rig has the Nordschleiffe and it is the absolute favorite track...

Re: Will Applying for a Mortgage Cause Problems?

These underwriters don't care how much net worth you have, it's all about debt burden to verified, steady income. IMO, a typical ERE'r will make their decision to finance based on term period and prevailing interest rates.

Dec '17 Update

Changes Might decide to move these updates to quarterly now as things have settled down and there aren't many changes happening for me. Really haven't progressed much on my various projects, (especially the electric Opel :( ) just chipping away at things slowly and being patient. I did make a signi...

Re: Living with 500k < 1 M < 2 M < 4M ...

a) This is a total WAG and changes depending on which community you're talking to. The Dave Ramsey crew things 7% is ok, the Trinity study devotees and mustache men say 4% is safe as houses and over here at ERE-land, if 2-3% seems widely accepted. I keep hearing people say things like 'well under th...

don't you just hate it when spending goes up a month and kills the metrics? Nice job pulling in the big fee for consulting services!
