Re: Social Credit System

This article goes into some depth about the current status of the China Social Credit System, particularly with respect to the problems and failures, but also noting that it is a system in change and transition. https://www.wired.co.uk/article/china-social-credit-system-explained I, and others here ...

Re: Social Credit System

Abuses to any system can open the door for criticism of the entire system. First...take a hard look at the social systems that are already in place. Without too much stress or cost, you can find out a great deal about me. Do I pay my bills? What is my home value/equity? My Criminal background, inclu...

Re: Social Credit System

With literally thousands of studies to review, I wouldn't pretend to make a definitive statement about the subject. ... and I (maybe "we" ) will not be around to see it take place, still it deserves some thought. Taking from a stream of conciousness, some questions: Where do we learn "...

Social Credit System

The subject is not well understood by most Americans. In view of that, instead of bringing forth my own opinion in detail, I'd like to post a single article that describes how it is working in China. https://www.wired.co.uk/article/china-social-credit-system-explained There is also an extended artic...

Chart these numbers?

What would a chart look like, given these numbers? In 1980, the TOTAL National Debt... not month or year... but the total National debt was under one Trillion dollars. It took 197 years to reach that level. Last month, the national debt increased by 134 Billion dollars in one month, which would work...

Re: Tom Young's first journal

Thanks, Jacob... for a deeper dive into what has to be the most universal, and obvious factor that affects all of the world's population. A tiny sidenote, not directly the live/die situation, but that was to me, one of the faster moving changes in how our society works. My son works for a consulting...

Re: Tom Young's first journal

Hi guys... Going through a new change. Away from most of the "money" oriented discussions where I've been writing for the past 8 years... and headed to the more philosophical, theoretical thoughtful less ego centered subjects. Looking ahead... taking in the negative and searching out the p...

Life Philosophy

As I grow older (now 83), more time to look back on the bits and pieces of philosophy that have formed my own outlook on life. No single item or event, but one of the most compelling times in the past, was when we lived in Concord MA, near Walden Pond. Naturally this led to reading Thoreau's "O...

Re: Tom Young's first journal

Haven't gone back to read my older posts, so I expect I'll get caught in some lies. :( Sooo.... Life isn't so bad after all. Jeanie (my bride of 60+ years) and I are doing very well, and am over the self pity  We're both quite healthy, and after our semi annual visit to the gerontologist yester...

Re: Tom Young's first journal

Glad to hear things are still getting along well. Just noticed the 3 hours of sleep per night comment from your previous post, this definitely could be having a negative effect on cognitive function. Has this been improving? Thanks for asking...:) a chance to get it off my chest. .....................

Re: Tom Young's first journal

Now 60 years married, 30 years retired and 83 years old.
Life is wonderfully the same. Financially safe, healthy and enjoying life.
I suppose we made mistakes along the way, but if so, they have been forgotten.
Just posting so We don't get lost. :)

Re: Tom Young's first journal

Now, not much later. Everything is going better than we expected. The memory decline is not too much worse and the body is doing quite well. All biomarkers look good, and jeanie and I are starting a health regimen at our CCRC's fitness center. All very modern machines, and ultra ultra sophisticated....

Re: Tom Young's first journal

Yeah...I guess that self diagnosis isn't acceptable. I've talked it over with my doctor, and we both see no purpose in going through whatever tests are necessary to be"legal". I figure I'm pretty lucky to still be able to think and reason, despite the fact that short term memories, names a...

Re: Tom Young's first journal

another "wordy" update... still here... :) Some thoughts on dementia. First person experience. Initial onset of memory problems came on about 5 years ago. Now, @ age 82, just a fact of life that requires adjustment. The initial reaction was one of periodic depression and a look to the fami...

Re: Tom Young's first journal

Touching base after 3 years... Still alive w/my bride and living in our home in Liberty Village. All's well healthwise, and still financially secure. Best of all, still happily enjoying what is now more than 28 years of retirement. The philosophy of two stages of retirement has not changed. While I ...

Re: Tom Young's first journal

Sheesh... Now into the 81st year, and dealing w/the forgetfulness that we call alzheimers... Not too bad yet, but getting there. Short term memory not worth a damn, but the underlying IQ seems to still be there. So that explains the intervening time. Just found the link in my deleted files. Jeez.. d...

Re: Tom Young's first journal

A one year bump. Nearing the 80th year... November 3. All is pretty much the same. No words of wisdom... If anything, life is much less extreme. As my bride and I slow down, it's easier to pick and choose what we do. Life becomes more stable... more organized out of necessity. Adventure comes from p...

Re: Tom Young's first journal

Am not here often enough to tune in to all of the posts, but I do enjoy the philosophical approach... something that seems to be missing in most internet discussions. Negative blogs are hard to read, but provide a place for venting. So, a little divergence here, about looking at the future. Instead ...

Re: Tom Young's first journal

Winter is becoming a long haul... I know, because I I'm getting antsy, and realized that when I found myself reading the "Hollywood Reporter". This time an article that made me think. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/google-chairman-eric-schmidt-internet-765989 Google executive chairm...
