Re: ffj's Early Retirement (round 2)
The only 2 antibiotics I've had to take over the past decade or so are azithromycin (Z-pak) and doxycycline for minor infections. Sorry I don't know much more about their specific use cases over penicillin but I can at least attest to no allergic reactions! Good luck with finding a decent PCP. It's ...

Re: ffj's Early Retirement (round 2)
Glad you're okay ffj. Stair looks level to me! I only have one severe allergy and it's anything in the Penicillin family. My reaction is similar to yours, plus respiratory issues. Penicillin almost killed me as an infant and then Amoxicillin was accidentally given to me as a teenager with less sever...

Re: SD: Self-identity
I find myself....protective (?) of self-identify as I age in a way that is not comparable with WL framework application. Maybe it's the ego-death inducing drugs but I can clearly see where I fall on this spectrum, but sort of don't care and sort of don't want to share it at all? Lest other colors pr...

Oh, really? The leanFIRE line used to be set so much higher (40k) that I always found myself wondering what was so "lean" about it. From the originator of leanFIRE: https://forum.earlyretirementextreme.com/viewtopic.php?p=179222#p179222 No, not really. Some of the most voted posts week af...

We're officially mid-year and I'm no more decided about my terminal trajectory out of the rat race. I've considered making a new journal since that's my sole focus right now and there was too much personally identifiable info here -- instead I just redacted out some personal life stuff and will keep...

https://www.otherhand.org/home-page/area-51-and-other-strange-places/looking-at-the-bob-lazar-story-from-the-perspective-of-2018/ This theory has line-of-sight implications that are probably hard to justify in the middle on an ocean, but it's just one other example of a clear explanation for many si...

Re: Hunting for Food: A Primer
@Alpha @white belt, I don't have experience hunting with slugs but that's how my father harvested dozens of deer growing up. I've ranged a friend's 410 with a slug barrel and had no issues grouping at 75 yds (I'm not a particularly great shot). My shoulder was not a fan though. I've heard mixed thin...

Re: Hunting for Food: A Primer
Re: Deer hunting. The best ROI for hunting is making friends with folks who own land (20+ acres) in rural areas. Many rural landowners don't actually hunt, and fewer trust people enough to allow them to carry a firearm onto their land. If you can find these folks and gain their trust then many times...

Bored so journaling. redacted The answer to my last journal pondering was buy a single family dwelling in the targeted area, like right that second. Turns out it's one of the top 3 housing markets in the country now and prices are up about 20% since 2019. Whoops. Oh yeah 2 big(gest) things worth men...

As a severe asthmatic I have been prescribed dexa several times in my life and it absolutely changes your body/mind very quickly. Also docs have always been hesitant to prescribe it...it's been given to me as a last course before hospitalization. Anecdotal I know.

This narrative of boring => no votes is funny. What was so exciting about the 2018 midterms that got people out in numbers? Also, I see a bit of a Streisand Effect when it comes to mail-in ballots. Lots of young adults (ignorantly) didn't realize how low-effort and effective it was to vote by mail b...

@bigato thanks for a wealth of info, I've internalized a lot of what was written by you even if I may no longer have the option of re-reading your contributions. wrt nuking past contributions: Unfortunately I think having the option to do so provides the most utility for Jacob as a creator and moder...

Re: COVID-19: Unwinding the Lockdown and Long Term Epidemic
This is exactly what the Democrats have done for 3 years. Not sure what you mean there? Complaining about how the electoral college should work (or not exist) is not the same as saying voting results are fraudulent. And btw I'm not comparing Trump to Dems (Carter was the #1 in Fed judges lol), just...

Re: COVID-19: Unwinding the Lockdown and Long Term Epidemic
Trump is the least powerful US president in my lifetime ... It's amusing that intelligent people are afraid Trump's going to become an autocratic dictator. Sorry for the off-topic but hard disagree. Least effective != least powerful. He's made it his mission to stack the judicial system (second mos...
