Re: Which Brands & Sources of Rice Have the Least Arsenic?

According to this we should try to get from Asia, although I'm sure there are bad sources there too. Arsenic occurs in soils naturally and so it's best to try to counter it anyway. If you eat apples, you are ingesting arsenic (organic or not) because they contain it naturally. I get my Turmeric from...

Re: Moving

@smashter, We will move close to DW's family when the time comes since we are pretty close to them. The city they live in has everything we want too, a good library, a 200+ acre park, good riding/walking trails, great COL. There are a number of things we don't like about our current area, number one...

Re: Moving

I spent my early 20's moving around a bit, I think I lived in 4 or 5 different places all for work. Most of those were in the mid-west with the exception of a summer in California. I did a lot more traveling than I wanted to and I think it burned me a bit on moving and traveling so I wanted to nest ...

Thanks all. :) I am now a week post-corporate and feel I'm still decompressing a bit but am feeling pretty great. Today is my official start date with the new guys and I'm pretty excited. It was supposed to be Monday but my computer was delayed in shipping so they just pushed it to today. The joys o...

Re: How much time does dishwasher save you?

There is a whole slew of stuff you aren't supposed to put into dishwashers and so ultimately you have to wash those by hand anyway. Also the newer ones don't do a very good job in my experience and so you either have to lightly wash before hand or after the fact. You're likely spending 15 minutes lo...

Thanks For All The Fish Thanks guys. :) So this is the last journal post of a whole bunch I've already made from my little part of corporate cubicle farm. Can't say I'm sentimental! I thought I would leave myself a little reminder of what I'm leaving behind and a glimpse into my own personal work l...

@cmonkey - source?

Meaning, are you suggesting that Equifax will pay for freezes at the other two agencies also?
Here.

Not at this time, but you might expect it in the near future. Lots of ticked off people.

Re: Equifax hack

Equifax is now allowing 30 days of fee-free freezing of credit reports. This is assuming you can even get it to work though, their system is being flooded at the moment. In fact I can't freeze at either of the either two either so best wait a while. They will likely extend the 30 day free. Does anyo...

Re: Equifax hack

Really, though, I think the insidious nature of this particular hack is the potential for future abuse, 2, 3, 5 years down the road. After all, the criminals know the accounts are likely to be frozen for 6-12 months, so they can afford to sit on it. Your info is effectively more wide open than ever...

Re: Equifax hack

Given 143 million people are affected, I think its safe to say we are all affected. Their site tells me that I am. Here's how to freeze your credit . Seems like a good response to this if you do not have any need of new accounts at least for the interim. This is pretty crazy, though. A definitely ch...

Trust me it works for sweet potatoes. :D The only major issue is that the vines go everywhere, but they do that in the ground too. I'll put a photo up later when we harvest.

To that extent, yea, gaming is negative but its like anything taken to an extreme. I play fairly sparingly, mostly on holiday time or over winter, but never more than an hour or two at a time. For some reason I can't go that long. The only time to buy anything on Steam is over their 'holiday sale' t...

Re: Energy usage log

This summer has been very good to our electric bill. Every month was around $80 which is a lot lower than in the last few years when we were over $100 per month. August was the single best month since the first year we moved in, we used 377 kwh with a bill of $54. This might not seem low to some of ...

Re: vexed's ERE journey from the very beginning!

For things I "want" I usually give it 6+ months and if I still want it I will go ahead and purchase it. When I do this I don't have any regrets usually. So for example I just ordered a nice pair of over ear headphones after "wanting" it for about 3 years now. If you go with this system, it generally...

Funny cat story. Yes that looks like a male cat. Male and female cats have different looks to them. Monty was also neutered when he showed up and had missing fur and was basically starving. Not sure you made the right choice in keeping him as these tramp cats that show up are extremely attached/need...

Re: Growing sweet potatoes from a single potato

DW did this for the first time this year from the sweet potatoes we harvested last year. It worked very well, just one little chunk gave us enough for 2-3 plants. We also planted ours in straw towers to make harvesting easier. We did the straw tower thing 2 years ago and we had sweet potatoes nearly...

Excellent. He seemed a bit surprised but was supportive of the decision. I just framed it as "its an offer I can't refuse" rather than "I'm just hating it here and need out". Both are true though.

You'd have to do the math on both plans and compare, it's all available. There isn't any way we could tell for sure. Paying for your own health insurance, even HDHP, would be very expensive at your income level, so like the others I would lean toward the employer paid option. That said, if you have ...

Agree on it becoming less exciting as you grow. I kinda wish I could keep the excitement going. Milestones aren't even meaning as much even as I approach 150K. I noticed this once I reached 100K, it just wasn't the same anymore. I do still get a buzz when I see I'm beating the market, and it definit...
