chimp are as close to us as bonobo are. They exhibit a very different behavior.
I think the sexual behavior is much more linked to recent evolutionary context, than old genes from millions of years ago.
I'm not saying bonobos are a wrong model for modern human

Re: What doesn't kill you might make you dumber?

Our brain are getting dammaged all the time. Fighting against it is like fighting agains a reeceeding hairline. But we can compensate for it up to a point. Like how it's much easier to learn a third language than a second one, because you already know how to order the knowledge. I'm not saying it's ...

Re: ERE City (US)

A return ticket to houghton from basel only cost 500.- it doesn't seem to be very isolated. Also, it is big enough to qualify as civilization. Also, engineering student aren't fierce competitors when it comes to mating for heterosexual males :D But they are a good demographics for any ERE 2.0 projec...

ok, it's kind of cold in winter, but not that much.
There are otherwise all the amenities people asked for. It's as climate change proof as can be, prices are within range.

Re: Gaming/virtual economies (EVE online)

killer type activist don't wan't you to change your mind, they wan't you to be afraid to express any thought they haven't validated before. They are the main reason it's so hard to have public discussions on politics. I think most activist aren't like that. Even on the other side :D Then, many peopl...

Re: Gaming/virtual economies (EVE online)

the name killer is misleading, it's more about having power on others than killing them. Also, I think the best game are those that allow those four instinct to be satisfied at the same time. Hunt : Showdown is a good example of that. You play in duo or trui, which is perfect for socializing, you ne...

Re: Smelly Swiss Dilettante

the six subjects are: dogs, game knowledge, laws, nature conservation and protection, weapons, hunting techniques. I think the exams are mostly a way to keep people out of that activity. Other places do it by charging more money. Big game are boars, deers, roe deer, chamois, there are also ducks and...

I'll spend the last week of August in Belgrade, and the 2 or 3 weeks before in Latvia. I'll attend ERE fest in Latvia, and I'll be with a group in Belgrade.
I really would like suggestion about Belgrade. Is anyone living there?
In Latvia, I'll mostly chillingly explore the coutryside.

Re: Gaming/virtual economies (EVE online)

I think a lot of the call of nature, is because we still need to feel how much a part of NATURE we are. At least for me, hunting will be about experiencing existence how NATURE made us experience it for the last million years. Learning about Nature is just a mean to this end. Technology freeing up s...

Re: Smelly Swiss Dilettante

I think there is one variety of colorblindness that makes it easier to distinguishe nuances of brown in the forest. But Red deers and Roe deer have similar colors, so color blindness shouldn't interfere, Red deers are much bigger. Males weight around 150kg, while male roe deer are closer to 20kg. Bu...
