See how the rest of the world lives, organized by income

What does it look like when someone in Sweden brushes their teeth or when someone in Rwanda makes their bed? Anna Rosling Rönnlund wants all of us to find out, so she sent photographers to 264 homes in 50 countries (and counting!) to document the stoves, bed, toilets, toys and more in households fr...

RE: Brussels Belgium meetup

Good, some people are interested in a meeting in Belgium. I started to get worried ;)

@Finmukt: Ah great! Can we occupy your livingroom Saturday 24th of June? :D
Is that day ok for everybody? With summer holiday coming up, it'll be harder to fix a date.

Re: Mobile phone: prepaid card hack >1/2 cheaper plan

A pay per minute phone line (cfr erotic and the like advice lines). Anybody can rent such a number
You could set up the same platform as the mentioned websites in BE & NL for public use and earn some extra money with it.
Or use the phone line only for retrieving your personal prepaid card money.

Brussels Belgium meetup

I can't make it to the meetup in the Netherlands http://forum.earlyretirementextreme.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&p=143072#p143072 How about one in the center of Europe = Brussels :) - Hike + potluck meetup in Brussels. Let me look into the location - TBD. I ask a friend if I can borrow her house. If so, w...

Mobile phone: prepaid card hack >1/2 cheaper plan

A little hack to get a cheaper phone plan Set up a pay number (or call a number via existing programs mentioned below = more expensive & only for BE/NL) and retrieve part of the money paid for a prepaid card 1. Buy a prepaid card with a free data plan. E.g. 15E prepaid card = about 150 call minutes ...

Re: Clean Slate

Alternative housing plan Shouldn't I have had the windfall, I would have proceeded with the cottage idea. I was coming back from China for sure due to family issues. 10K-50K buys a cottage with small garden that rents out for 250-500 E. Plus, these cottages are perfect for self sufficient living. I...

Re: Swiss PhD student

What are your/her legal rights? If nothing is on paper, you can just kick her out. To keep it fair I would first write a registered letter to her (is that the correct translation?) with a date by when she has to be out. When she's not out you can write another, that she'll be removed by police. Or c...

Re: Swiss PhD student

Do you have employment agencies in your neighborhood? I find it has a better success rate due to the immediate face 2 face contact. They're also paid when they find a job for you. Apart from that I found my serious first job when posting my resume on job website from the gov. People started calling ...

Re: Clean Slate

@JamesR: I'm not investing any money (yet?). As mentioned I don't like that virtual world ==> I prefer investing in projects that I can closely follow up & even contribute (labor) to. Ah well, that's for when the housing project is finished. ============== It's a 1 593 sq ft enclosed house (no garde...

Re: Clean Slate

Wow, seems like ages have passed. I'd better start writing after I've achieved something, instead of living in an endless dream... In short: I left China (someday I'll do a PhD, but it wont be following the standard path), dumped the boyfriend, worked on a tourist trailerpark, bought a house, now wo...

For example: http://busyteacher.org/4791-top-5-countries-with-best-esl-salaries.html I only have experience with China. If you're born in an English speaking country, have enough proof of experience and the right accreditation and certificates, there's big money to be made in Asia. A nice adventure ...

Re: Riparian's Journal

Hey twin, I'm glad you like my journal. What kind of workshops do you think I could do that people would buy expensive plane tickets to come to? I do some little teaching, but I'm bad at talking in front of big groups. I had to talk at a press conference recently and afterwards a drunk told me I sh...

Ups I didn't see the second part of your threat. JamesR is right concerning long term cheap travel. The best ROI is when you stay a minimum of 6 months, leveling out all travelcosts and taking advantage of "bulk buys" concerning all aspects of life. Definitely if you're interested in getting to know...

Oh great ERE story! :) I've lived in Peru for a year, mainly in Piura. I used to be hot easily. After a couple of weeks in Piura, I got used to the climate. When I came home again, I would be freezing my ass of when it was 68F ^^ The atmosphere is so laid back close to Ecuador, also less air polluti...

If anyone here think I'm wrong, please warn me before I make a woman believe this and get her pregnant. Haha sounds like you're going to run for a random lady in the street and knock her up with the help of some ERE hypnosis, for the sake of having some legacy in this world :D You should definitely...

Have you thought about sex work? You can have deep soul connections for an hour and help people feel better then move on with your life plus money. Keen.com is a good (supposedly non) phone sex I would make for a terrible sexworker :D I don't easily give myself on that level. Once I do, it's harder...

Re: Riparian's Journal

What do you do? Whatever I want. *change topic* How do you make it out there with no job? I'm really frugal. If you don't spend money you don't have to make it. I know people are always talking about having too much time, but really? By the time I get up, do yoga, have a cup of tea and write in my ...
