Re: The Reluctant Journal

7Wannabe5 50 days a year of work sounds amazing...very "doable"while not sacrificing your quality of life too much. Look for the " cushiest" number you can find even if it's boring with not much work satisfaction...for me "least time" working is my dominant factor when ...

Re: The Reluctant Journal

My favourite time of the year... Christmas...NOT. The weather has taken a turn for the worst...real winter now as very cold. The length of darkness is nearly at it's peak...thank goodness it will be turning soon. As the lockdown has been "loosened" I joined a gym with my DH. Of course it i...

Re: The Reluctant Journal

My DH would love hiking with you...he is obsessed with wildlife especially "feathered birds"... (picking my words carefully here with you). It drives me crazy when he deprives me of my "high" on a hike by stopping to watch and name birds constantly. Hopefully your asthma will set...

Re: The Reluctant Journal

The days I cycle now I can do 50 miles in cold conditions with strong winds and rain... very satisfying. I think I am addicted to it now like I was to running before my knees packed in. How long will I be able to continue this without wear and tear injuries? I have "wild swimming" in my he...

Sounds like an idyllic way to live...apart from your wife's back pain.

Thanks for the update

Re: The Reluctant Journal

Possibly you are correct and I will have to wait and see... But as I've just taken my Barbie's out of the box in my fifties I am more acutely aware my time to play with them is very limited. Maximum I give myself is 18 more years of fitness and health (if I even have that)...a world where for exampl...

Re: The Reluctant Journal

So my battle to do every second weekend parent caring paid off and that is exactly what I'm doing now... which is fine...I just find it boring...get nothing out of it...much like when I was raising my kids...but it is fine. I have done a 360 on Covid 19, think it's all a bit of a farce but as I work...

Re: The Reluctant Journal

Work has settled back to normal ...for now. I must admit I am keeping a closer eye on things and working from home "a tiny bit". (a thing I vowed would never happen) just to keep things ticking over and not give my line manager any excuse to think job sharing in my current post doesn't wor...

I always read your posts because they are a nutty but very funny way of viewing everything.

I would definitely buy your book if you wrote one...now more than ever everyone needs a good laugh.

Re: What's the status symbol for the FI/ERE crowd?

Waiting for the week day morning rush hour work/school traffic to pass so that you can go cycling for the day.

Sitting alone having lunch (next to your bike) week days outside busy supermarkets or park benches... reading the ERE forums...knowing nobody.

Re: Frugal chicos journal - ERE in Spain

Your photos and talk of Santiago de Compostela brought back my memories of my week on the Camino. It was the best holiday I've ever been on. Northern Spain is so beautiful and the food is amazing I was just talking to my DH about it today saying..."Imagine some people can take a whole month out...

Re: The Reluctant Journal

I have no regrets about moving to the job that I now work in. It has served me well. I detested everything about the last place I worked. I know things will settle back to normal again and I am so lucky to only work 2 days a week. The luxury I have is that if I retired now I would be fine financiall...

Re: The Reluctant Journal

Work is a bit sh** at the moment... taking up much too much of my headspace...but not much physical space as I am never there. Hopefully it will settle down again soon. I feel a bit guilty that I'm having such an enjoyable life...kind of stupid really when I planned it for years and used self discip...

Re: The Reluctant Journal

Hi mooretrees, For me part-time work has always been the ultimate. The warnings that go with it (an example being my part -time work partner), work can not be your life/identity. This is mainly because you're never really there much to get stuck in and drive through major projects/changes. You are m...

Re: The Reluctant Journal

Update on my current work situation. Thank God and fingers crossed my relationship with my line manager is as strong as it ever was. I have worked very hard throughout my full time working years to make this relationship work... and it does. We understand each other and my aim was always to work red...

Re: The Reluctant Journal

I left my "hellhole" workplace over 5 years ago to work where I an now and never regretted it. In fact I have thrived ever sense. A recent trigger at work brought back the way I felt constantly working there...not nice. My job sharing partner is definitely an ENTJ and wants to "rule t...

Re: What are you taking/eating or doing to improve your immunity?

I'm a true believer in making the immune system work...like a muscle (naturally only if you have a normal healthy immune system with no underlying conditions). As a healthcare worker we are offered and advised to take the free influenza vaccine every year. As I never come into contact with patients ...
