Re: ERE Wheaton Map project: Green origin

Really?! That seems like trying to externalize motivation via rewards ... and in other settings that tends to destroy internal motivation. True. I just completed a very short course on Classroom Management Theory. Unsurprisingly, the 4 models of classroom management roughly align to the spiral dyna...

Re: Fox's Journey: And Onto the Sunlight!

Ha, you think that’s hard, try breaking up with somebody who could literally break you. Additional note being that pretty men will also cry, so then you got the double whammy of guilt AND danger! Sometimes I think the easiest way out is to gain 20 lbs, stop shaving your legs, and behave on a manner ...

I very much like your graph, but I would note that in my experience there is more overlap/crossing of Aristocrat and Dirtbag than you indicate ( the realm of the Bohemian), so Middle Class is actually the most money intensive lifestyle.

How easy is it to achieve or maintain permanent resident status? Isn't there some level of resistance to those who didn't pay into the extended social safety net system attaching themselves as free-riders?

Re: Winter Heating Challenge/Log

I currently reside in a tiny 2nd/3rd floor apartment just north of 43 latitude. I haven't turned my heat on yet due to benefit of occupants of lower/adjacent apartments almost certainly making that choice, and the fact that I prefer very cool environment. My first floor landlady is extremely frugal ...

Re: ERE Wheaton Map project: Green origin

Strongly individualistic persons focus on the private, the for-profit companies, as it allows them the greatest benefits to thrive. Social or group-oriented persons focus on the public, the city, and national values. And the non-profit sector dealing with universally human values like education, re...

Re: ERE Wheaton Map project: Green origin

Gotcha. As usual I was being half silly with what I typed, but OTOH, it does seem to me that you are giving Green short shrift for its flavor of "clever." Green has to be integrated towards Yellow, and not just in terms of its stereotypical easily described values system. For instance, it ...

@Myakka: Unfortunately, opposite of that sort of problem. Everything including the mucous lining which is supposed to stay put comes out, sometimes quite violently. Hydro-therapy is specifically red-flagged as dangerous for my condition. I just finished yet another round of steroids and started a ne...

Re: ERE Wheaton Map project: Green origin

I’m calling B.S. on getting to Yellow without going through Green. Further note being that I don’t believe Green is what it seems to be described as here. In particular, the Green=post-modern perspective would first have to gaze upon “ERE” through critical lenses such as the psychological analysis o...

Re: Any math teachers here?

It looks about the same level as recommended (not necessarily achieved!) 8th grade proficiency in the U.S. If the child needs help, it is likely that she is missing some previous rungs on the ladder and will need what is called "scaffolding." The Khan Academy has well organized review mate...

Re: Method to minimize yard work

Lawn grass represents 3rd largest crop. Huge waste of resources. Lawn grass seed is preferred diet of the Canada Goose and why its population is currently majority urban and booming along with the humans. OTOH, a lawn is much better than concrete/asphalt cover in terms of absorbing torrential climat...

Re: ERE Wheaton Map project: Green origin

Defining the 'moats' might be a place to start. It makes sense off-hand to me that the moat between 5 and 6 for green is a shift from reducing harm to providing benefit, but might be off there. Two books originally published in 1991 (30 years ago!) which I recently re-read are "YMOYL" and...

I am currently rather ill and swollen up like a decrepit puffer-fish on my 4th round of steroids in just over a year. I am spending most of my days engaged in the exhausting task of attempting to teach math and science to underprivileged adolescents who were possibly poisoned with lead around age 5....

Re: The Education of Axel Heyst

I think the core disconnect is between what/who is a producer in ecology vs economy. At the ecological level, all humans are apex consumers. Ergo, our efforts towards economic production, spurred on by work ethic, are part and parcel of consumption or exploitation of the wilderness. Obviously, adopt...

I think that most people need at least one life factor that stays consistent* towards psychological construction of semi-consistent narrative, but one is enough. So, if your relationship with your husband is solid, then no home realm, and no career trajectory plus associated colleagues/institutions ...

You might not work very much, but I get the sense that when you show up to your classroom for example, you aren't thinking to yourself "Right, what's the least amount of effort I can put into this and not get fired or yelled at by parents for being such a shitty teacher?" More like I'm th...

Re: The Education of Axel Heyst

Maybe there are some practices that are beneficial if applied to self, but less so if extended to others in covert social contract? For instance, would you feel angry if you fulfilled social contract/role of being a great second date to the best of your ability, but your date didn't? Also, within th...
