Re: Quitting Alcohol Pros and Cons

I like the occasional dark beer or red wine. : ) I've found quitting stuff cold turkey is easier for me. Maybe watch a documentary on alcoholism and that'll get you to an absolute position quickly. Then being around US drinking culture will get you to a drink or two every now and again. Ta da! Also,...

Re: How much do you value location independence?

@James - cool man, you just saved me $180 a year, not to mention the capital required to support that amount.

Looks like it should work on my unlocked iPhone5 w/ sim card slot?

Re: How much do you value location independence?

@James - Yeah, I actually like them. They're good people, and they talk about just about anything. On finding community, turns out it's pretty hard to find, especially on a day to day basis.

Re: Fox's Journey: Out of the Burrow

Hm unfortunately I don't think I'd be a very good fit as a teacher. Too much time working with large groups. Sustainably speaking, I'd be able to work with small groups or one-on-one. Competitive environments or careers also tend to be highly stressful. My expense level means I don't need to be in s...

Re: How much do you value location independence?

Working remotely doesn't appeal to me at all. Surfing and sleeping under the stars is fun on the go. Finding a decent wi-fi connection in Thailand to talk to your business partner is not. I say learn how to create a sustainable Packable Life, save up the assets, and then travel long-term. A Packable...

Re: Fox's Journey: Out of the Burrow

Well then I'll report you lovely bastards :D With love of course.<3 I'd guess the room is about 12 feet by 10 feet. It looks pretty nice with tapestries on the wall, hard wood floors, an "Asian style" divider, and some flowers on the window sill. I've only used Craigslist and interviewing in the pas...

Re: Fox's Journey: Out of the Burrow

In-Room Renting I cleared it through my landlord and decided to get a room divider to either: 1. Rent out half of my room ($275/mo), or 2. Air BnB half of the room (How much do you think I could earn via AirBnb?) Doing this with the right people means more community in an otherwise lonely apartment...

Re: Spent $60 on an in-person date. Fuck that

Non-conformity and socialization is indeed a large reason why more folks don't try polyamory nor openly identify as polyamorous. There is not only lots of shaming from parents and older generations, but also lots of misinformation. For example, poly/kink communities have a tendency to check/ask for ...

It is the job of therapists to listen to their patient and act like a bouncing board of ideas and fe...

Re: Fox's Journey: Out of the Burrow

Not just healthcare or mental health. Those are ideas. And what, burnout isn't a big problem in corporate finance? Give me a f*king break. All I decided is that finance and tech are not for me after trying them for half a year, and now I'm going to try something else that is more suited to me. Wheth...

Re: Fox's Journey: Out of the Burrow

Yeah, I suppose you're right. My difficulty seems to have been in mentally accepting that a lower income will be the way to go; that my path will have to be a lot different than the highly compensated tech/finance worker. Agreed that ERE is broader than living on your portfolio and exiting the rat r...

Re: Fox's Journey: Out of the Burrow

@Jacob, and for a few rare professionals. Namely NTs, like those succeeding/staying in finance, engineering, or tech. The only way to get down to 6K/yr in NY is to van live or have a roommate in your room. Still, 12K isn't half bad either. From my experiences over the past few months, I've grown to ...

Re: Fox's Journey: Out of the Burrow

Talked to the therapist just now. We decided that I can't stick around in corporate jobs. It just isn't sustainable. It'll be fine as a temporary role to help defray bills. Instead, I'd be better off vying for a job in healthcare, mental health, or similar. Next step is to change my resume around to...

JAN 2018 Recruiting Job I think the sales career path isn't a good fit for me either. I've already felt super depressed after a many of my work days. I mean, they've probably always felt exceptional to the person at that time. It is an interesting idea - just sell the 400K worth of stuff and then reinvest it when the markets collapse. Of course, you could also be wrong and the market could rally for the next few years. Then, when it does fall, it...

I'd bail if there weren't kids already personally. She wants to work until she's 60 and is not ok with roommates? Working 5-20 years is better than sharing space with some probably nice people? Just the thought of kids would send me running for another haha. But it's up to you. It's possible by slin...

@BRUTE: That said, I think THF is fairly balanced in his feminine/masculine energy, but he is quite a bit more "childlike" (not to be confused with "childish", highly functional adult humans benefit from maintaining access to childlike energy, both feminine and masculine) than the average member of...
