Re: Fox's Journey: And Onto the Sunlight!

MID-SEPTEMBER 2019: DECISION, GREENLIGHT ON PSYCH PHD So, after years getting on and off different meaningless office jobs and lots of thought & experiences, I've officially decided to go for the PhD in Clinical Science Psychology. I'll end up with base+ ERE and the option to do whatever the fuck p...

Someone who gets me<3

I’d add a pamphlet that specifically lists out all career paths that one can get and their earnings potential, educational requirements, and so on. Kinda like builds for an MMORPG or something.

Re: If you could go back and give your 17 year old self one book, what would it be?

Oh yeah! I do remember asking that. I think I chose the right thing out of the options I had at the time, geology. Looking back, I think I should've just changed the overarching goal from finance to psych or double-majored in psych, but just didn't realize it at the time. I do listen to the advice, ...

Re: If you could go back and give your 17 year old self one book, what would it be?

WORTHLESS -> YEEEEEEEEEES I wish I had that goddamn book. Fuck me, and all the other forsaken millennials that majored in the wrong shit at 18 yo. ------ As much as I found ERE, MMM, and JLCollins when I was 17 yo or 18 yo, I don't think anyone addressed picking the right major, mostly just to live ...

Re: Fox's Journey: And Onto the Sunlight!

Applying to Clinical Science Psychology PhD Programs So the clinical science director at the uni I'm going to wrote back saying that my application is competitive for their clinical science phd program. That's really encouraging. I'm thinking instead of applying for a job (which let's be real I'd p...

Re: Ten years or less to reach FI

From the perspective of extremely high savings rate (75%+), I don't think "the grind" exists. First, the accumulation period is short (~5 years), so it feels more like a sprint than a marathon. This also creates more flexibility in terms of stopping and restarting. If you take time off, the savings...

Re: Fox's Journey: And Onto the Sunlight!

Updates! I've had some pretty useful revelations while loafing around in bed learning Portuguese (spoiler: it's basically Spanish): 1. My depression is one part caused by not feeling successful: no job or job I hate, living with parents (sorry ma), no daily time structure 2. My depression is also ca...

In other news, 3% is a really interesting show, and honestly how job competitions can feel sometimes for 20 year-olds. It's also great for learning Portuguese!

Workin' Moms on Netflix makes me never want to have kids lol

I was watching Workin' Moms on Netflix, and holy shit, I thought having kids, getting married, and intermingling all that with original issues would be bad, but man, the show really does a good job at painting what parenting can be like. Have any of you watched it, and do you think its a realistic r...

Journal journal journal. It's become pretty obvious that the cavalry doesn't come in the modern world. No one is going to save you. Most people are too concerned with their own problems to care about yours. As much as I learned that many of our societal and personal problems are systemic and should ...

Re: Fox's Journey: And Onto the Sunlight!

SEPTEMBER 2019 I think I’m going to pick up the habit of just journaling here whenever I feel good or bad. Journaling is helpful. I’ve started taking the 6 classes and they’re going well thus far. It was a bit of a headache getting big-uni to let me take excess credits, but I finally got that all ap...

I don't think I'd like teaching off the cuff, but what about Remote Work? Hm, a friend with a masters in education who has two kids is also happy working at a company called Everfi: https://everfi.com/about/careers/current-openings/ It sounds like a "you must drink the koolaid" sort of place, BUT t...

Re: Fox's Journey: And Onto the Sunlight!

What you’re describing sounds more to me like a state agency than a non-profit, per se. Sure, some non-profits may look like this, but not all. Wasn’t your last job with a state university? Wasn’t it a non-profit? Remember, “non-profit” mostly refers to tax code status and what they are allowed to ...

Re: Fox's Journey: And Onto the Sunlight!

Teaching, More Ruling-Outs @RFS, yeah, I thought about teaching. I feel like I'd make a good corporate trainer or similar since I like and am good at public speaking. Teaching, on the other hand, feels like extroverted territory, crowd control and all. Still, maybe I should try it. Do you know the ...

Re: How to re-track to Psychology Doctorate?

I got a 159 Verbal and 156 quant on the GRE (lowest is 130 and highest is 170 for each). The average scores are 150 verbal and 153 quant, so mine are above average. I probably should've studied more for quant, but verbal was 100x more enjoyable. Also got a 3.40 GPA at a top college. Only one problem...

Re: Fox's Journey: And Onto the Sunlight!

Yeah, I’ve eaten fish and meat over the past year as well as the usual whole grains, veggies, and fruits. Still depressed, so that’s likely not it.

I think I might just need more people in my life than the average person. Unfortunately.
