Re: Now that I'm done with Masters, time for a cheap road-trip out west paid for by government hand-out?
I don't know, Corona-chan seems like a scam. ^_^ I dug through a million US census maps and came to a list of key cities/towns to visit in the ~Mountain States. From South to North: 1. AZ: Tucson 2. AZ: Phoenix 2. AZ: Flagstaff 3. AZ: Prescott 4. UT: St. George 5. UT: Moab 6. UT: SLC 7. UT: Ogden 8....

Re: Now that I'm done with Masters, time for a cheap road-trip out west paid for by government hand-out?
@theanimal, agreed. I found a flight from Miami to Denver that's only $99. Phoenix sounds even better, that way I can zig-zag up the Mountain States. I think your plan makes more sense since I definitely don't see myself living anywhere east of the Mississippi at this point in time, and driving thro...

Most interesting? Probably Utah & Colorado, with secondary interest in MO, ID, AZ, WY, NV, and southwest SD, and least interest in NM @C40, yeah, I pulled that map from an article with all national parks, but I'm mainly interested in exploring the Mountain States. This is a reconnaissance missio...

So I finished my MPA, and I'm still waiting to hear on funding for my second MS. I'm also sending out networking emails to find a geology job in the Mountain States out west. The US also sent me a "free" check of $1200. So... Why not use that money to fund a significant part of a multi-wee...

@Egg, maybe not to weird, Roosh also went god-pill celibate after running introvert day and night game for a decade. Must come with the territory of doing this for a living
Game is one of the most clear and thorough books for day game, but it's out of print. :p

Cabin air filter, that one was the toughest :p
That’s really cool that you did the rotors, I’ve been scared to jack the car up thus far, mostly cause my parent’s HOA writes you up whenever you work on your car, and cause getting squished by a car doesn’t sound fun

Re: Fox's Journey: And Onto the Sunlight!
Geology is skilled labor, and a STEM field. It is in-demand, pays well, has varied work settings, and has varied work schedules. Apparently most of the work is in Hydrogeology/Environmental Geology, Oil/gas, and mining. But there are plenty of these firms or government agencies throughout CO or UT. ...

Re: Fox's Journey: And Onto the Sunlight!
MAY 2020 MPA: Done. 3.8 GPA, did it in 8 months, funded with stipend. I think the degree (and frankly most degrees) is bullshit and may not really hold much professional weight since it's not necessarily an in-demand, difficult skill, but at least I can now move on to something else and I have *a* ...

Re: Is doing your own car mechanics "normal"?
After reading some more, I think I'll get *myself* a manual transmission Corolla/Corolla Hatchback. I think the manual transmission cars last a whole lot longer and are easier to fix. Safety comparisons with automatics don't seem statistically significant, but at least standard transmission cars for...

Re: Would you ever want to be famous? Conversation on Privacy & Security in an Increasingly Invasive Environment
Hm, nope. Even if resources help to deal with privacy or security issues, it still sounds like a PITA that I’d need to hire a cop and have them with me wherever I go, let alone staying away from people that like to write articles on what sandwich I ate that day and what that means about me, or live ...

@whitebelt, I think I'll run through those two links you put up and maybe get some of his more moderate books before considering the advanced stuff. Yeah, I've been trying to figure out how to just get a blank search box whenever I open up the Youtube homepage (my only "social media" platf...

Re: Would you ever want to be famous? Conversation on Privacy & Security in an Increasingly Invasive Environment
@whitebelt, cool! The Extreme Privacy book is the one I'm reading. For sure this book is more for highest threat level people, but it is interesting to read. I guess my point here is that not being in that highest threat level -- by avoiding becoming famous -- may as well be worth all of the money r...

Re: Would you ever want to be famous? Conversation on Privacy & Security in an Increasingly Invasive Environment
That Tim Ferris post is also what I thought of first. I very much appreciate this quote: “You want everyone to know your name and no one to know your face.” Personally I'd much rather be influential than easily identifiable. There's a big difference. One is about how you impact the world around you...

Would you ever want to be famous? Conversation on Privacy & Security in an Increasingly Invasive Environment
I've been reading a book on digital privacy and physical security, and man, I don't think it's worth it to be super rich and famous. The amount of precautions the super rich or famous need to take are mind boggling. They basically need a team of people scouring the internet for privacy concerns and ...

Re: USA UBI starts?? Automatic Boost to Communities Act
UBI seems like a bad idea. People seem to be inherently lazy, and threat of starvation is a good motivator. Might be fine for people like us that would likely be productive and interesting one way or another, but for most folks, unemployment while on unemployment insurance (a proxy for UBI) shows a ...

Re: If I work in a foreign country, can I get paid in USD if I work for a US company? Should I consider working abroad?
Geology is a pretty large field, I don't necessarily need to work in a mine or a oil rig. There's lots of work in hydrogeology or environmental geology too. It is an in-demand field that is interesting and well-paid according to the BLS. Tons of geologists work for governments too, so I can at least...

Given your chosen profession, the way to achieve this is to hook up early with a large multinational corporation where you can learn the ropes, and then they can relocate you, and you might get great perks when they deploy you—company car and housing, club memberships, “combat pay,” that sort of th...

Now that my Masters in Public Administration is done, I may be able to finish my Masters in Geoscience online, while working as a junior geologist in the US or abroad. SE Asia looks l...
