Re: Sedentary indoor cold wear
I can recommend anything from natural fibers (wool, fur, sheepskin...) for clothing. And two other suggestions: Paul Wheaton talks about incandescent light bulbs for spot heating (f. ex. feet, hands, upper body). In Japan they use a kotatsu https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kotatsu , basically a thick b...

I pledge to one YouTube creator (only $2), to show my appreciation for his work. I have (re)watched some of his videos 10-20 times. The last time I checked he made about $1'600 per month from 600 patreons. His channel has 150'000 subscribers.

<t>Absolutely get the book (paper version). I would never sell mine, as I re-read parts of it every year. I find that the learnings I get out of it change with my experience on ERE. It hasn't stopped teaching me yet (I had it for about 4 years).

Re: What if we get a Japan scenario?
One thing that comes to mind is active stock investing as opposed to passive (index investing). Even if the market as a whole is flat or trending down you can still pick individual stocks or sectors that will perform. You can do this yourself or pay a professional to do it for you. Agreed, picking ...

What if we get a Japan scenario?
I heard repeatedly that we* could expect a similar outcome like Japan has experienced, Mark Yusko says the US is 11 years behind, see here in this great summary of Steve Blumenthal of one of his presentations: https://www.advisorperspectives.com/commentaries/2017/06/12/on-my-radar-mark-yusko-s-ten-s...

Yeah, funny that he spoke about this topic just now, but I guess he is confronted with this critique a lot. I really liked the way he talked about it, I like his personality.

I am in the process of removing the need for a pillow altogether, by gradually reducing the pillow thickness so that your body can adapt.
Katy Bowman inspired me to do this.

I disagree and would say that he has changed, f.ex it seems that he regrets all the self-experimentation he did a couple of years ago. It might be that the lyme disease made him aware of his mortality and shifted his view (he got a dog, takes more care of his family). I haven't read Tool of Titans f...

Throwing out some ideas for inspiration: - raw milk automat (I guess you would have to be a farmer for this), or selling raw milk at a farmers market. If your point-of-sale has good frequency of customers, you could make a good side income. People are willing to pay the grocery store price. The auto...

They do have a lot of interns because they teach courses. And that is why they can do A LOT. But he has calculated how to scale the farm and still be profitable with only a family (and some help in the summer months) as well. If you are interested, listen to the podcast episode 225 on permaculturevo...

Ridgedale Farms youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/mrintegralpermanence Richard Perkins has a permaculture farm in Sweden, where he does regenerative agriculture. He set up his farm to be a profitable business and not just a homestead fantasy. You can tell that he plans everything in adva...

I am not even trying to join the conversation since I still have a lot to learn. But I liked this presentation of Steven Bregman, mentioned in Jesse Felders podcast: http://www.grantspub.com/files/presentations/Grant's%20Conference_Oct%204%202016_Steven%20Bregman_Final[2].pdf Just one quote from the...

Re: Most Challenging Obstacle in Personal Finance.
1. Deciding on an investment strategy, one that I feel confident about for a long time. And then implementing it (putting things in practice is what I struggle with most).
2. Fully understanding the systems thinking approach so I can create my own instead of copying others.

Re: AI.. our future or demise?
Thanks for starting this thread (and thank you all that I can always count on the wisdom of the ERE people). I started worrying about AI ever since I listened to a Stephen Hawking interview where he stated that AI could be a real threat to humanity. I consider him to be one of the smartest people li...

Re: Can a tablet double up as a kindle?
I have a tablet (Nexus) and use it for reading books sometimes. Unlike most of the previous commenters, I like its multifunctionality. The tablet "lives" mostly next to my bed so I can read, watch TV/youtube, listen to podcasts or surf the internet whithout disturbing my DH who usually fal...
